An easy pour released a fat finger of beige and creamy, long-lived foam with shards of sliding lacing. Not very amber in color, it has a dark tan/light brown color over a semi-opaque and cloudy base.
Pine and resin greet the nose with a dried fruit and candy hint of sweetness. Citrus hops and rising dough are right behind. Alcohol is faint.
Semi sweet with very high bitterness, again pine leads with orange and lemon. The malt has some bready toast and caramel character but is far behind the hops. Alcohol is noticeable (not badly for 7%) without any astringency. The taste is uniform throughout the drink with the sweetness dropping off a bit at the finish without becoming dry. Spicy, piney, bitter hops linger a long time.
Medium bodied with high carbonation, very similar to NEIPA but with more sweetness. It says "Hoppy Amber Ale" on the label so I can't take points away for the high bitterness, however, I can't give high true-to-style points for the brown color with zero clarity. The body was a little big and the sweetness was high for the style, but I enjoyed drinking it overall. A strong case for a NE style American Amber/Red Ale category.
