(Notes of 06/08/2010) Tasted by a half-pint at the GBBF 2010, served by a hand-pull in a straight imperial pint glass. NOTE: this ale was recently awarded 2010 SIBA National Gold Medal.
A: very dark yellow straw, mild haze, a well-lasting off-white froth, on top of fine fizz.
S: estery fruitiness on the nose, hinting at green mangos + pears + sweetened citric + sweet flowery notes, on top of med-bodied pale malts; IPA-like aromatic, only paler and lighter in terms of maltiness.
T: the foretaste of honey, light phenol, dry citrus-peel-ish & earthy hop tannic bitterness is backed by over-ripened fruits and floral hop flavour... a smooth transition leads the palate to a bitter-ish & dry-ish aftertaste, leaving lingering aroma of hops & phenol and rendering a dry-ish finish.
M&D: slightly lacking fizz, not on top form but the potential is very good. An easy-drinking, fruity-hoppy Pale Strong Bitter this is!
