Really solid Southern IPA. Slightly sweet citrus and honey aroma. Good amber color with a light head. Taste is predominantly pine with some refreshing citrus notes. Bit bitey, but still pleasant. Feel is typical IPA with a powerful hit of carbonation. Absolutely give it a shot if you come across it!

Not an IPA person, but this IPA definitely could appeal to those who miss big, bitter, resiny IPAs. To me this was extremely piney through and through, with nice hints of dank wood and earthiness. I probably won't revisit this beer, but I would recommend trying it once.

On tap at Chicken & Beer at Atlanta airport.

A pleasure to drink such a beer in the airport. 4.0

A - Pours a light orange amber, slight hazy, with an one-finger off-white head, which dissipates quickly to a thin layer. Good lacing. 4.0

S - Pineapple overwhelms me. 4.0

T - Lots of citrus and tropical fruits (including pineapple) dominate but resiny hops are there as well. Some faint sweetness peaks through. 4.25

MF - Medium body with a dry smooth bitter finish. 4.0

This is a winner! Outstanding IPA bordering on, yes, world class. Not sure why the other ratings are so low? Perhaps not “drunk” at the right temperature. You did a fantastic job Wild Heaven Brewers!

On tap at Chicken + Beer.
Hazy gold with heavy lacing. Smells like a standard IPA, earthy and hoppy, but tastes much syrupy. Nectarlike peach and brighter lemon. The finish is unexpectedly long and bitter. A solid sipper that punches above its weight class.

12 oz can thanks to mothmanscott, dated 7-16-2016.
A: a pull of the lift tab reveals foam bubbling out, a slow pour into pint glass reveals +3 finger brilliant white foam head, heavy lacing on the glass, carbonation, body is a hazy golden color
S: plenty of citrus aroma, layers of pine resin, hints of a malt backbone, and throw in some biscuit, and some Belgian yeast I think that gives a fruity aroma
M: medium body with a semi dry finish that some what pukers the tongue
T: here is where it gets interesting, citrus hints, grapefruit rind, orange peel, bitterness on the tongue but also some musty taste, hints of metalic and phenolic taste, cantaloupe, white grape wine as it dries on my tongue along with the biterness.
O: good brew and I like it very much, but as it warms the flavor does become a little different from the cold start, so much that I notice the musty flavor more, that may be of putting to some. Will seek more of this brew!

Pours a hazy deep gold/pale amber, producing 2.5 fingers of frothy, off-white, moderately lasting head that leaves a frothy island cap & collar ring & a nice soapy coating of thick, sticky lacing. Man this is an "out of the box"/"off the beaten path" rendering of an IPA! Aroma is fronted by a musty cantaloupe/berry essence, backed by more familiar hop notes of citrus (orange & tangerine), tropical fruit, floral, spice & a hint of pine, caramel comes in next mixed with hints of wood & humidor cedar. The taste is not nearly so pleasant as the nose. Fronted by flavors of musty melon, wood & something phenolic/plastic like that subdue the citrus & tropical hop notes to mere hints. The sweet caramel is most detectable from the swallow through the finish where pepper & a cleaner citrus, tropical hop profile is presented. The sweetness begins to disappear immediately leaving a bitter, citrusy, slightly sour & intensly dry aftertaste. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with moderate carbonation, juciy in the front, developing a prickle early that runs through the finish, becoming very dry & chalky in the aftertaste. The tongue coating dryness lasts loooonng into the aftertaste. An adventuresome & divergent take on the style. Expect the unexpected with this one.

Poured into a Wicked Weed snifter. Bottom of can says Canned On 08/26/16.

A- Pours a hazy medium amber color with a 1/2 inch off-white head that retains well before becoming a thin ring around the edge of the glass and a full sheet of surface foam. Resilient lacing leaves a thin solid ring behind.

S- Fruity aromas of tangerine, grapefruit and orange. Somewhat sweet.

T- Well that's just godawful. I'm sorry but this tastes like burnt plastic. Harsh bitterness throughout and zero hop or malt character. Something's wrong here.

M- Intensely dry to the point of being like I just had a mouthful of sand. Medium carbonation and a lightish body.

O- I think there's something wrong with this can since the other reviews don't mention it being undrinkable, which this literally is. I'm going to contact the brewery and see if there's something wrong with this batch, in which case I will promptly delete my review. But, until then, it stays so that people can see that they might not want to purchase this latest batch. Such a shame since everything else I've had from Wild Heaven has been awesome.

This is like nothing I have had before. As many other people have pointed out, there is something very different and odd about this beer. However, I can't make up my mind if this a good thing or a bad thing; need to give it a second go before I can decide.

On tap, served on a goblet at Taco Mac in Peachtree City, GA.

Look - Just beautiful, probably my favorite thing about this beer. Looks just like hazy grade-A dark-amber maple syrup, with about a finger of white head.

Smell - Yes, it is true that it has some of the tropical fruit, citrus and other characteristics of a mid-coast IPA, but these are overpowered by a musty or woody quality, which I can't decided if I like or not. It is almost as if the beer was stored in wet oak barrels for a short period of time.

Taste - Upfront, some tropical fruits, mostly melon, but also surprisingly, some dark fruit and a nutty flavor. In the back some of that musty character again (like the smell of old books). I see some people have found it bitter, but I actually think there is very little bitterness to it; the issue is that this "odd" damp quality lingers.

Mouthfeel - big medium mouthfeel, with good carbonation; I like it.

Overall - Well, I think that if you're looking for something completely different then you should give this a go. I'm giving it a 4 for now just because I liked how different it is.

Poured from the tap at Taco Mac in Douglasville, GA into a mug. Nice color with a small white head. The aroma was decent, very mild but there was an "odd" taste. couldn't put my finger on it. Must have been a spice or a style of hop they used. It wasn't a bad beer, not one of my favorites.

pours a hazy, bright amber with a medium head that poofs. nose; citrus hops & tropical fruit. taste; sweet bready malt, bitter citrus hops, bitter mango, pineapple, passionfruit, & orange rind. middle & finish are drupey & punch-like. medium+ carbonation & mouthfeel. the first ipa i've had from wild heaven; it strikes a good balance of citrus bitters & malt/tropical sweetness. pretty solid ipa.

This one was kind of strange to me. It had a ton of hoppy bitterness, but the flavor of the beer wasn't overly hoppy if that makes any sense. Mainly the balance was off. I got bitter and not much else.

This standouts in the very crowded 'new ipa' space of Georgia craft beers...The problem is it's not in an entirely pleasant way... The hop flavor here is akin to smoky tea (?). The finish is abrupt and doesn't leave any of juicy hop goodness on the palate. Admittedly the second & third were better than the first, but would be very tough to reach for this (locally) when you have Creature Comforts, Three Taverns, Orpheus, Burnt Hickory all producing superior options.

This beer taste great! I loved its bitter and sweet balance. Where have I heard that before? Any beer named for a Flannery O'Connor novel has a lot to live up to and this IPA delivers.

12oz can from Bullock's (Woodstock, GA). 10.99/ 6 pack. Canned 6/3/16. Served in a Wild Heaven snifter.

Pours a hazy orange amber with a fair amount of particulate that quickly settles to the bottom. The finger and a half of beige head fades slowly to a rocky cap across the surface and fluffy crown that leaves some spotty lacing in its wake.

Smells of orange pulp, light lemon zest, faint caramel and mild pine. Straight forward but pleasant enough.

Flavors are a bitter blend of orange zest, lemon, vague pine, faint flower petals, a hint of pepper and some distantly sweet, balancing caramel malt. Almost no alcohol presence whatsoever. Quite tasty.

Semi resinous, medium feel with tingling carbonation. The lingering, bittersweet aftertaste carries more notes of citrus peel, orange pulp and a smidge of toasted caramel.

After close to five years Wild Heaven has finally released an IPA. Wise Blood is a solid offering in a mighty crowded field.

Smelled amazing. Dank weed and tangerines. Taste was more citrus with surprising bitterness on the finish. The mouthful was exemplary. Sensationally smooth. Dangerous, almost.

Draft pint into a Wise Blood pint glass at the official launch. Nicely balanced IPA with a nose full of citrus and tropical hops. Well balanced taste with a nice hop bite but not over the top. Finish seemed just a bit short and a little bitter but overall a great addition to Georgia's IPA lineup. Looking forward to a six pack and spending more time with this one.
