crazy beer to put in a can, and a weird one overall, but im glad we found it, just my second from these guys. a mint julep inspired wheatwine, aged in bourbon barrels and featuring vanilla and spearmint, quite sweet but also quite complex, a small doses thing, boozy as can be too, but fun and different, inventive. past amber but not to brown, reddish and with a low glow, a little cloudiness, and more head than expected, not even all that viscous. the aroma pretty much fills the room up, vanilla is strong, mint is intense and concentrated to me, almost a toothpaste thing, lots of whiskey which is pleasant and higher end, very sweet from the malt, long boiled, not screaming wheat to me, but cool wrinkles of molasses and maple and brown sugar, seems breakfasty, a little overdone on the mint and the vanilla though, and its strong, wow. the flavor is fresh from the mint and its more real to the botanical in taste, essential oily and pretty intense still. vanilla is over the top, which with the alcohol gives a slightly cheap vibe, but i like the malt complexity, taste and feel more wheat now, and the bourbon is dripping from this, adding to the vanilla character as well. i think there is a little clash between the sweet decadence and the mint the way it comes through, not all the way cohesive to me, but the beer overall is cool, and true to its mission. i appreciate the use of nice barrels, think they could borderline do without the vanilla. good body, long flavor trajectory, serious linger. cool beer, thankful to be sharing it, but the effort is a good one!
