Poured from a 750ml bottle into a tulip
A: Dark brown with a lingering two-finger head
S: Spicy grain from the rye, a distinct smoothness, some roasted malt/nutty notes as well
T: Largely matches the nose. Mostly roasted grains and spicy rye notes. The label mentions several hops but I'm not getting much flavor from them
M: Medium-bodied, a bit spicy yet also incredibly smooth
O: Tough putting 'farmhouse' into words but I feel this embodies it - like they combined rye / other freshly harvested grains and fermented them. Another nice Rockmill beer

This beer was sort of...confusing. It's dark and smoky/roasty like a porter or brown ale, but the body is light like a saison. Also smoother than I expected from a saison with not much carbonation. If you're expecting a traditional saison style (sort of Belgian tripel-ish) then this is not the beer for you. That's not to say it was a bad beer, just not what I'd expect from a saison. Maybe that's just how rye saisons are?

750 ml caged and corked bottle. Served in a Prairie Teku, the beer pours a slightly hazy reddish/copper color with about an inch light tan head. Head retention and lacing are both good. I like the aroma, the brew smells like spicy rye, citrus and citrus peel, bready/grainy malt, and some earthiness. I think the taste is similar to the aroma, but there's also a bit of bittersweet chocolate noticeable. Lots of earthy and spicy rye flavors, with some bitterness and sweetness too. Mouthfeel/body is medium, with a moderate amount of soft carbonation. I liked this, Rockmill just keeps cranking out the good beers! It's certainly worth picking up, especially if you're a fan of rye beers.
