blended sour blonde in wine barrels with ginger, hibiscus tea, and grapefruit, mature, puckery, summery, curiously strong, and very obviously from cascade, their fermentation profile and house wild flavor is so identifiable! cool to find this one on tap, but its definitely a little flat, like maybe some bottle conditioning would do it good, i hope to try it in that format as well, but its still a really nice beer. the hibiscus gives it a lovely color, while the whole thing is quite piquant and mouthwatering in the nose, sharp citrus, lemon along with the pithy bitter but very natural grapefruit, a little vinegar too to me, not too much ginger but its distinct here. the added ingredients come together really well in the flavor, and its quite good, but the base beer seems samey, less wine forward and woody than it could be, and like its been around the block a few times in different cascade beers, just with different extras. the hibiscus is subtle here, the ginger is natural with some spiciness, and the grapefruit is fresh. the beer is dry and thin for its strength, but woefully under carbonated for my tastes, so it warms up not super well, the sourness runs out in front a bit, and it ends up not seeming as refined as their best work, although the flavors are certainly there. fun mix of stuff in here, not my favorite, but i bet this is better from the bottle, its a texture issue for me on draft, i need some bubbles! another great beer from these guys overall though, and im glad to see so much around boise of late!
