This NW-style sour ale is no wallflower. It started as a strong spiced quad that was barrel aged for 21 months, then aged for another 6 months on blueberries. Huge herbal notes of dense blueberries in the nose give way to hints of oak and leather. Rich, earthy notes of dark fruit on the palate yield to a rich, velvety finish that dries out to a base note of blueberry skins. This is a single barrel project.

Draft at the Barrel House. Purple hue, with pinkish foamy head. Nice jelly jar aroma, sweet and fresh. Taste goes a bit deeper into the berries, still sweet and very juicy. Again the tartness puckers, and then dries out your gums. Nice sweet jelly flavors linger, along with the dryness. These guys know their way around a sour, for sure.

A: Blueberries, light floral spices, moderate dried fruit, lightly acetic, coupled with a light bourbon aroma.
A: Deep plum color with a very thin fine white head that quickly spreads to the ring of the glass. There is ample lacing.
T: Moderate blueberries upfront, lightly herbal with moderate dried fruit character, lightly sweet with a light bourbon finish.
M: Full bodied with moderately light carbonation. There is tartness from the blueberries, but the beer is not acidic.
O: Solid; the beer is big a bit boozy with a blueberry herbal bourbon note. There’s a lot going on with the beer in terms of its aroma and flavor, but not all the components blend seamlessly.
