8 oz glass at the barrel house. This is the non BA version of Diesel.
A: Thick and black with a faint ring of mocha colored head. Does a thorough job of staining the glass with brown color when swirled.
N: Chocolate and molasses. Roasted coffee and malt. There’s a hint of caramel in here. Lots of black licorice and a hint of piney hops. Leather and tobacco add depth. However, it’s not very strong and most of the flavors only come through when the beer is sipped.
T: Quite a bit of roast and bitterness here. The sweetness backs up the aforementioned flavors, but it’s quite subdued. Can get somewhat astringent.
M: Thick and coating; slightly oily. Really like the mouthfeel on this one.
O: There’s a lot to like about this beer, but it’s certainly meant for a barrel aging program to help bring out more of the sweet notes. Still, it was quite fun to get a chance to enjoy this one as it stands well on its own.
