Maine Lager is brewed in a style that is truly unique to American brewing and is one of the largest-scale lagers produced in New England. Maine Lager is dry and balanced beyond belief; malt-forward and drinkable; rich and complex but approachable and true-to-style. Not your Dad’s canned beer; this lager, which ferments with an authentic San Francisco lager yeast, requires several weeks of cold conditioning (“lagering”), but we think it’s worth the wait. At-home at the dinner table or in the daypack, Maine Lager is arguably the most versatile beer in the Baxter portfolio (and, according to the Portland Press Herald, “one of my favorite beers in the Baxter lineup”). Pairs with: Chicken and turkey; shellfish; and lightly-browned meats, like pork chops. It’s also a great match for richer goat cheeses, like Humboldt Fog, and lighter cheddars and jack cheeses.

12oz can, Sam Adams glass, canned 8/27/19.
Unexpectedly copper colored. The head is a loose collection of off white wisps that leave drapery on the glass.
Whole grain bread, hint of caramel.
Sweet malt flavors reminiscent of cinnamon toast, without the cinnamon, almost like brûlée sugar on very toasty toast. Not overly sweet, moderate hop bitterness with a little leafy, green, tobacco flavor.
Light bodied, high but creamy carbonation.
I’m not certain this is an American Lager, it is a little dark and flavorful. American Red/Amber Lager may be more appropriate. It is enjoyable, though a little sweet for me to drink more than one or two.

Really good flavorful lager. It has a refreshing feel similar to a good pilsner. Super drinkable, has some subtle hop taste without any bitterness, very smooth flavor. If only adjunct lagers tasted like this. Great for relaxing after work and for quenching thirst.
