a fabulous coffee lager here, a style i have really taken a shining too of late. for a brewery i hadnt heard anything good about before visiting, i was impressed with the couple of brews we had here, creative, well executed, inspired even, and this lager is really tasty. i believe its done with local campfire coffee, which is a dude who roasts beans over live fire, i had an espresso there when i was in town and quite pleased with the quality and uniqueness. i did find it slightly more roasted than is common in the modern coffee world, excessively bitter by those standards, but that did not manifest itself in this lager at all, maybe a different roast or blend or brew method, in any event, the coffee is cool and its neat to have it in a lighter brew like this where it can really shine. this isnt perfectly clear, but i wouldnt describe it as hazy either, and its stained a couple shades by the coffee addition. it smells very fresh, minimal on the yeast side which is fine, the coffee pops with rich whiskey and dry cocoa notes, a little oaky warmth to it too, curious and inviting in a crisp lager base. the coffee is not subtle here, its at least as flavorful as the lager itself, and i love that. i also love the low alcohol here and the briskness it drinks with, allows me to make a day out of it if i wanted to. tons of nuance to the coffee, chocolate, raisin, light smoke, its delightful, and its hardly bitter at all on the finish, which is clean and snappy. overall really good beer in a style i am more and more attracted to with every example of it i have. these guys are underrated overall...
