Poured into a Seattle Beer Week pint glass. Pours a medium coppery amber with a fine, two finger white head with great retention and thick lacing. Aroma of caramel malt, citrus and piney hops, orange, grapefruit, mixed tropical fruit, a bit dank. I think some lupulin powder got up my nose…. Flavor is caramel malt, citrus, piney and dank hops, orange, lemon, catty dankness, mixed mystery tropical fruit, green onion. Long, lingering piney and citrus hop finish. Medium bodied with light to moderate creaminess. A busy imperial IPA with a lot of flavors going on, but all of them are interesting. The use of lupulin powder is evident here with intense hop flavors. The dankness made the light oniony note fit in well. Some of the fruit notes, like the orange are extremely bright and estery. A nice, intense hoppy IPA that lives up to its name. I like it.

12oz can served in a snifter. 7/25/18.

Pours a nice clear amber color with a small fine head and not a lot of carbonation. Smell is piney / grapefruity.

Taste is more of the same, strong bitterness, with a hint of booze.

Mouthfeel is medium bodied, a little still. Overall, pretty good.

Thanks to leftpaw for bringing out this banger to last month's Oregon camping week. Was easily one of if not the best hoppy beer of the trip. Pours a honey color with a slight darker concentration vibe, soft 1/3" white head. Aroma is even nicer, big dry hop blast, seems like that hot combo of Mosaic and Citra? No, Mosaic and Simcoe, that makes sense given the taste.

The taste has a hearty Simcoe like bitterness to it, but it doesn't simply drape itself in the grapefruit cat piss dryness, it has lots of Mosaic delivering a papaya and guave humid dankness covered in your favorite green nugs. The malt body is relatively light, it hides the alcohol amazingly well. Seems like a simple enough blend of two row, maybe golden promise.
Gets all resinous without being sticky or thick. It does have a summit like contribution hop wise, but its light and delicious.

Melvin is really top notch in the hop game and doing it without charging $4+ a can newmoney prices.

Lighter burnt gold with a medium-thin, white uniform blanket, this beer has a peppery dankness of soft cannabis and eucalyptus with a little grapefruit and pine.

12 oz can, canned 5/24/18. Pours slightly hazy golden orange with a medium creamy head that retains well and laces the glass.

The aroma is some sweet fruit with big dank and resiny hops with a little green onion.

The flavor is sweet bready malt and some fruit with big dank and resiny hops with a little green onion. The mouthfeel is medium to full bodied with smooth carbonation.

Overall, I remember liking this more and not noticing the green onion when I had it on tap a couple of years ago.

Poured into a tulip, the appearance was a nice looking rugged dark orange close to brown color with a slim little cap of a white foamy head. Messy lace ran around the glass nicely.
The aroma had a very nice blend of easy going danky onion to earthy hop to caramel to biscuit to toasted edges playing cleanly with the overall bearing of it all.
The flavor seemed to push the danky onion to earthy hop further up in front of the malts - which still came across caramel/biscuit/toast. Nice clean caramel/toast malty to hoppy earthy and oniony aftertaste.
The mouthfeel was about medium bodied with a fair sipping quality about it. Malts run cleanly over my tongue. Carbonation and ABV felt good. Smooth clean onion danky finish.
Overall, this was a nicely done DIPA that I could come back to.

Brief impression from a can nabbed at Argonaut Liquor in Denver, CO.

"IIPA." Brewed with Mosaic & Simcoe hops (and/or lupulin powder thereof, apparently, though the label is phrased vaguely on this point).

Fails to showcase either Mosaic or Simcoe hops to an impressive extent, neglecting the subtle blueberry note Mosaic tends to impart as well as the oniony and/or yogurty notes Simcoe can bring.

Pale malts lend this its simplistic backbone.

Balanced enough though not dialed in to an ideal extent.

Rather drinkable for its ABV. Not impressive in the current (I)IPA landscape, but certainly above average.

Appearance: golden honey colored. Wonderfully bright. No haze whatsoever. The head is a bright white 1-finger with fair retention.

Aroma: super hoppy; “Melvin”-like aroma. I could smell this beer from several feet away after being poured. Pineapple is the only standout fruit character.

Flavor: pungent, dank and sticky hops. No pine. The hops are Mosaic and Simcoe. There aren’t any signature Mosaic characteristics. No alcohol health or flavor.

Mouthfeel: light-medium. You could drink several without feeling the weight.

Overall: Yet another damn solid offering from Melvin. I think this beer ranks near the top of Melvin’s portfolio, and better than Asterisk and Drunken Master. Although this beer, doesn’t have any standout hop flavors, it is still an excellent beer. This is a repeat purchase! I like how Melvin dialed down the ABV % (8.0%). I commend Melvin for not jumping on the bandwagon and switching over all their IPAs to NE styles. Hop Shocker could easily rival many of the better NE-styles.
