Canned on 9/13/2018 (It's hard to get Melvin fresh in these parts). Poured from 12 oz. can into Spiegelau IPA glass. It pours a pretty, hazy, honey-amber color with a half finger of fluffy, bright white head and a thin coating of creamy lacing. On the nose I'm getting a base of sweet malt with onion, grapefruit, lemon, pine needles, and light floral hops. It's hard to tell what 2+ months does to an IPA but this is still quite good. It opens with a base of fairly sweet malt but a blast of quite bitter Mosaic and Simcoe hops. While I'm not getting a lot of citrus, the balance of malt sweetness and hop bitterness is really good. There is also a discernible taste of caramel from the malt. It has a pleasant mouth feel with fairly lively carbonation and a punch 8% ABV. It drinks fairly big and the 12 oz. format is appropriate. Overall, I really like this offering. I'm a little surprised we get Melvin distro on the east coast and it's never as fresh as I'd like. Fresh, this ale may be even better!

Clear golden beer with lots of effervescence and a coupla fingers of white head on top... Brewed with Simcoe and Mosaic hops, and canned 9/13/18... Mildly sweet, mild-moderately bitter, it has plenty of juicy fruit and earthy pine impressions, with herbal, berry, citrus, and tropical notes all making an appearance... Soft and smooth, it has a nice medium-light body-feel, and a pleasant finish... It hits a lot of marks for an IIPA, but isn't game-changing...

Poured into a Seattle Beer Week pint glass. Pours a medium coppery amber with a fine, two finger white head with great retention and thick lacing. Aroma of caramel malt, citrus and piney hops, orange, grapefruit, mixed tropical fruit, a bit dank. I think some lupulin powder got up my nose…. Flavor is caramel malt, citrus, piney and dank hops, orange, lemon, catty dankness, mixed mystery tropical fruit, green onion. Long, lingering piney and citrus hop finish. Medium bodied with light to moderate creaminess. A busy imperial IPA with a lot of flavors going on, but all of them are interesting. The use of lupulin powder is evident here with intense hop flavors. The dankness made the light oniony note fit in well. Some of the fruit notes, like the orange are extremely bright and estery. A nice, intense hoppy IPA that lives up to its name. I like it.

12oz can served in a snifter. 7/25/18.

Pours a nice clear amber color with a small fine head and not a lot of carbonation. Smell is piney / grapefruity.

Taste is more of the same, strong bitterness, with a hint of booze.

Mouthfeel is medium bodied, a little still. Overall, pretty good.

Thanks to leftpaw for bringing out this banger to last month's Oregon camping week. Was easily one of if not the best hoppy beer of the trip. Pours a honey color with a slight darker concentration vibe, soft 1/3" white head. Aroma is even nicer, big dry hop blast, seems like that hot combo of Mosaic and Citra? No, Mosaic and Simcoe, that makes sense given the taste.

The taste has a hearty Simcoe like bitterness to it, but it doesn't simply drape itself in the grapefruit cat piss dryness, it has lots of Mosaic delivering a papaya and guave humid dankness covered in your favorite green nugs. The malt body is relatively light, it hides the alcohol amazingly well. Seems like a simple enough blend of two row, maybe golden promise.
Gets all resinous without being sticky or thick. It does have a summit like contribution hop wise, but its light and delicious.

Melvin is really top notch in the hop game and doing it without charging $4+ a can newmoney prices.

Lighter burnt gold with a medium-thin, white uniform blanket, this beer has a peppery dankness of soft cannabis and eucalyptus with a little grapefruit and pine.
