this is what melvin does best, the hoppy stuff, and this is an excellent beer, one of their lightest to date, a session type, lower in alcohol but still cranked up in flavor. the hops are bold in the nose and taste, awesomely fresh, although maybe not as unique and distinctive as in many of their beers. i get some citra i think, meyer lemon, lemongrass, pineapple, then something a little more piney and bitter, it ends up kind of being the best of both worlds in terms of the hop spectrum here, not complex just long and full, more robust than the session types usually are in my experience, which i immediately appreciate in this. its light yellow in color, short of all the way clear but does not look intentionally hazy, and has a lasting white head on it, fine carbonation, and is mostly dry at the end. a little pine resin linger, some lasting bitterness too, and overall a simple malt bill and clean fermentation staying out of the way of all these hops. a nice outdoor summer drinker, especially compared to all the heavier ipa types these guys do, but this is a beer i would be happy to drink year round. another hit from melvin!
