a really excellent, deep, and true to style dark mild ale here, a fun surprise when we visited their spot in jackson, a small list there, but lots of flavors new to me, so i was pleased. this almost drinks like an english porter, very dark on the grain, roasty and wintery to me, beyond even where the dark mild style usually goes, and there isnt much grain sweetness in the middle to balance it either, so this has nice low end bitterness, cocoa character, and then the bready bakery sort of yeast vibe, smooth in feel, not overly complex, wonderfully drinkable, and it seems to love spicy food. i get a cola note, dry baking chocolate, crusty bread, light toffee and molasses, trace umami, and wet soil, unique as these go, but still fully english to me at the same time. i like the little bit of bitterness on the finish, i like the fuller body, and the yeast profile is great, this is smooth and round but not filling, feels sort of healthy to be drinking on, and really is a great example of the darker side of english mild ale. this is a cool beer, a style i wish more american breweries would get into, this was just right on a cold rainy evening in here, very impressive overall quality. cool they are still brewing at this location as well!
