a flavorful and robust amber here, on tap at the thai spot in jackson, so awesome to finally be able to check this place out. i think its awesome they are still making beer here too. this is nutty and rich without being objectively sweet, it has quite a bit of body too, but is low in alcohol. its complex without being very hoppy or yeast driven, its all in the grain. the hops are just finishing bitterness for balance to me, light orange citrus notes maybe, but simple and out of the way. the yeast is lightly bready, even slightly lager-esque, but again, a complimentary wrinkle not a main agent of flavor. i get hints of almond, toffee, and maple, but also fallen leaves, porridge and minerals, its autumnal and hearty, bready, fuller feeling. smooth to drink on with palate coating maltiness but a clean finish, nice carbonation, holds up to spicy food pretty well too. not the most exciting beer in their stable, not by a mile, but its awesome that they do everything well, across all styles, there are no bad melvin beers. even this amber has its own character and stands out from the crowd. nice drinker for a chilly fall-like day.
