I liked this one a lot - it's a Czech-style dark lager, which you don't see much these days unless you go to a Czech restaurant or brewery. They gave it a shot though, and it turned out pretty well. It's fairly malty, but not quite like a brown ale. I didn't get much of the smokiness, but it's subtle I suppose. Nicely balanced in any case, and a good representation of a classic style that often gets overlooked.

Mahogany with a short yet slightly dense khaki head that quickly recedes to a creamy ring leaving fine lace.
Smoothly roasty cacao and tobacco qualities are accented by a light herbal tang that comes to a pleasantly nutty and leafy exhale.
A fine carbonation vibrates the silky medium body into a semi-dry finish.

12oz can from Homebrewstuff. Dark brown pour, thin foamy beige head. Aroma is light roast, nutty. Taste comes in with light sweet flavors, cola, the bitterness lays in the background and comes forth slowly. Mildly dry.

beautiful dark lager from these guys, amazing label art too, a great can of beer in every respect. this hits sort of like a schwarzbier, but i guess more czech than german, less hoppy too than some, a little bit of smoke to it, nice deep brown color with mahogany edges in the light, an inch of tan head, looks lively and light for its color, if that makes sense. dry cocoa on the nose, a little campfire thing, toffee sweetness, and maybe a hint of deeper roast but its nowhere near the porter or stout range. creamy feeling with nice malt layers, especially in the middle, caramel and molasses, but without a ton of late residual sweetness, its modest, and there is some bready european character to the lager yeast, subtle as it is here. i love the depth of the flavor but also how light it is to drink at the same time, it seems built for spicy food, and really warms up quite favorably as lagers go. smart recipe, a little different from what else is out there in this space right now, and a great addition to their lineup, i hope they keep it in rotation! delicious.
