Back in 1989, a trio of New York rappers moved to the West Coast and created an album that evolved their sound and propelled their career into a new decade. Now the Melvin crew is taking an Old World style and updating it with New School hop techniques, bringing a bold West Coast hop profile to the mix and creating an instant classic.

Taster flight at Alpine taproom. Bright, clear golden pour, paper thin head, lots of lacing. Bready aroma with a light hop kick. Taste is crisp and clean, biscuity with light lemon notes

a really good west coast pils that is way less bitter than the style seems to be trending, i love the hop profile, and overall this is a wonderful addition to their lineup, even though i have liked their other pils types too, this is really modern and it fits for melvin, where most things are quite hoppy and they are proud of that. sunny blonde beer, real light in the glass under a nice inch of big bubbled white head. it smells floral and less intense than a lot of these, almost a french hop thing to my nose, but the flavor is more robust. there the hops hit with lime, cut flowers, white grapefruit, green grape, and lemonade notes, nice on top of the slightly bready pils malt, which doesnt hit incredibly european or anything to me, but has more than enough character for this to be flavorful and balanced. its super dry, and even though the yeast flavor is quite subtle for a pils, its efficient, as this is snappy and quick and wonderfully refreshing and drinkable. they kept the bitterness pretty tame as the style goes, but its there on the swallow. i would love to know what hops are in here as the profile is quite distinctive to me. really light body, almost thin feeling, but i like how crushable it makes this. had it on tap but hoping to see this in cans, this could easily be a regular in my fridge this summer, very good and very modern.
