definitely not a style i would expect from melvin, but its a really nice take on it, a common type beer done with corn, which i believe is what makes it a kentucky common, like the same grain bill as bourbon, as a warm fermented lager, right? anyway, its very solid, real drinkable, and professionally executed all the way. light copper color to it with high shine and clarity and a nice lathered up inch and a half of white head from the tap with lots of carbonation rising up. the aroma has a baked warmth and heartiness to it, but isnt overly sweet or concentrated, even though i think i can pick up some corn sweetness in the center, some toffee here too, bready yeast, earthy minerality, bran, even a pretzel note less the salt, nice grain complexity here, subtle as it is. the flavor is similar, rich without being objectively sweet, faint maple, i can taste some corn i think too, bread crusts, honey, and a somewhat understated yeast profile that doesnt really come out until this warms up some, clean and easy for being grain driven, and very alive on the palate with large bubble size and pretty upbeat carbonation, a lighter than it looks body, and a silky smoothness to it that i notice more as it warms. very pleasant and well layered malt forward beer in a style we dont see enough of, a bit out of left field for melvin, but im about it. an easy anytime pint beer, really enjoyed it, freshness was appreciable too. well done!
