another rad new one from melvin, great to get to dabble in some new beers after a lot of the same stuff from them for awhile, at least around the boise market. this is super tasty, bold as heck, and modern for sure, very thiol boosted to me, maybe terpene spiked too, enhanced in that way, probably a new school engineered yeast doing that in this, it tastes like a vape pen with quality hash in it, and it is far and away the most robust expression of the loral hop i have ever known, a varietal everyone treats as a lager hop only, and it ends up subtle in a lot of light beers, its not subtle here, not at all. blonde and heady from the tap, high rising white head of compact bubbles, nice retention, bright looking stuff. the aroma is intoxicating and powerful, its so intense its hard to imagine it as loral specifically, based on how loral usually manifests, but its that thiol intensity, right away dialed up to 11, good sativa, lemongrass and white sage herbal character, white pepper dusty spiciness, lime jello, actual key lime zest, maybe a gin note, really almost shockingly dosed, but some light pils type malt is still present, and the lagering is thorough and professional, but this is about the hops. the flavor is the same, and i could see how this might be polarizing, you either like the thiol bomb or you dont, its crazy punchy and early starting, lime and heady weed, jasmine, fresh lemon, pineapple candy, so interesting, loral on steroids, fresh as can be, and relatively bitter on the quick snappy finish, dry and fast moving, surprisingly easy for this being as intense as it is, bigtime loral and thiol character recall, so it ends up on the palate awhile, but its so intriguing i cant get enough. very modern and informative beer, never had one quite like it, but i sure feel like i know the absolute maximum loral can be pushed to now, so thats fun. fairly exotic beer, unexpectedly challenging, very melvin of old. i could see this getting fatiguing after a few, maybe not the worlds most drinkable lager, but i sure appreciate what they did with it!
