This beer was just awesome. I wondered at first if it would live up to the other "BBQ" beers that attract so much hype and attention. Well, it does.

Initial primary aromas and flavors included dark grapes, figs, raisins, peeled watermelon, essence of plums, and a touch of baked pumpkin seeds sprinkled lightly with spices. Primary flavors always echoed aromas of a big Texas BBQ Getting fired up with some mesquite for the sunday barbacoa wagon, and a bourbon character that can only be equaled fishin' at 7am on a sunday before they start selling beer.

This beer is right up there with other BBQ style beers and I'm happy to say I found just as enjoyable as even the hyped-ed-dy BBQs like Boulevard.

Thanks to GRG1313 for sharing this one at his tasting.

Bottled 12/5/13.

Pours a hazy dark honey orange with a foamy beige head that settles to a partial film on top of the beer. Small streaks of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of malt, grain, caramel, toffee, bourbon, and slight dark fruit aromas. Taste is much the same with caramel, toffee, and bourbon flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of toast bitterness and an alcohol kick on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp and medium bodied mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer with a slightly better bourbon presence in the aroma.

Pours a caramel brown with a minimal dirty white head. Aroma offers bourbon and barrel with some nice supporting vanilla, caramel and toffee, and very slight fruit. Flavor is quite sweet and alcoholic; bourbon and barrel, vanilla, toffee, caramel, bread, and a big dose of heat in the finish. A fuller, chewy, flat mouthfeel. Overalll, not really too into this one. Also didn't like the base beer when I tried it originally, so this outcome isn't exactly unexpected.
