Through mutual admiration and brewing ethos, Funkwerks and Wicked Weed Brewing decided to collaborate and brew a beer that illustrates both breweries similarities as well as our unique differences. The result is a blend of 2 separate brews, 3 fruits (guava, papaya, passion fruit), and 4 microorganisms. Combining Wicked Weed’s artistry with barrel-aged Brettanomyces-fermented beers with Funkwerks’ kettle souring expertise, Duex Funk is a deliciously fruity wild ale.

Pretty intrigued by the collaborators involved, and while this is by no means a bad beer, I don't know that it lived up to my (probably inflated) expectations. The kettle souring is just such a dominant feature, overwhelming any fruit juiciness and most of the barrel/Brett character too. It's totally pleasant, a nice warm-weather sipper, but nothing revelatory.

awesome beer here, a collaboration between wicked weed and funkwerks, two heavy hitters with this type of beer. cool they got together for this. total tropical fruit bomb, its awesome. thick and orange in color, full of sediment, nice tall white head though. it smells super fruity, passion fruit for sure, the others harder to place, but maybe mango and apricot or even guava or something else islandy. there is a cool mix of funk to it too, hence the name i guess. its got a sharp up front acidity like a berliner, kettle soured in part i assume, and then a nice bretty profile on the back end thats also quite fruity and distinct. lots going on here, but it isnt messy. the fruits with the acidity create like a white sangria quality that really is unique to me in a beer, but its absolutely delicious. its a little sweet, could use more time for the brett to work away at these fruit sugars, and so it feels a little thick to me, less delicate and alive than i think the flavors would like, but on the other hand i also like it kind of fleshy and meaty like this, more raw, which is cool. on tap at colorado plus, i had no idea they got guest beer this cool in there. overall a real unique and enjoyable brew from two of the tops in the game. treat yourself!
