Enjoying vom fass/draft by the quarter liter at the brewery in Düsseldorf. This is better than the score/ranking indicates. Seems traditional, super malty and sweet. Not necessarily a craft twist on this style. Super drinkable. Great flavor, would recommend.

Tap @ Kurzer, Dusseldorf - Pours dark brown with a large white foamy head. Medium carbonation. Nice lacing. Aroma - fruity ester notes, bready/yeasty, light roast. Taste - bready/yeasty front, fruity ester notes, crisp bitter finish. Nice take on a fruity ester fronted alt bier.

Pours an utmost clear, brown-ember color, with a stable, big head.
The aromas are unusual metallic in this one, adding a lot of copper to the nose, while almost overpowering the beers bready malt base. A faint layer of grassy hops shines through, working well with the toasty malts. After the initial, slightly harsh beginning, the beer's components begin to work well together, with chewy, grainy hay becoming recognizable from the profound malt foundation.
Has an unusual low carbonation for this style, especially when regarding the coppery nose, hinting at a higher carbonation. Even for a sessionable beer, this finishes very aqueous, with all other flavours leaving the palate inmediately after becoming recognizable for a short glance.
Begins with an interesting mix of toasted, earthy malts and sweeter toffee, with a short appearance of leafy hops cutting through. The brew then turns sweeter and maltier, and its coppery flaw becomes visible on the tongue. Finishes watery, with a faint hop bitterness arising.
Pretty boring, features an unusual tame and light bodied interpretation of an Alt, for coming directly out of Düsseldorf. Reminds me of a mass produced Alt, as there is just not much going on. This basically prevents itself from getting recognizable, independent characteristics.

Appearance: impressive clarity, foamy white head, coppery-brown with red hues (lighter in color than Schlossel and Uerige, darker than Schumacher)
Aroma: toasty malt character, restrained aroma though
Taste: very toasty, almost like a light bock in flavor, very restrained dark fruit notes, spicy and floral noble hop to round out flavor, finish is smooth and a little sweet with mild fruit character
Mouthfeel: medium body, lager like, but not quite as crisp or carbonated (definitely the least carbonated so far),
Overall Impression: A middle of the road altbier, not straying too far towards lager or ale, with restrained fruit flavor and lager clarity, but ale like carbonation and mouthfeel.

Tall flip-top bottle: best before 15 Dec 2012. Poured (three times) into one of my Hannen Alt glasses @ home during a random tasting evening on 16 Nov 2012.
Looks reminded me of a cola with a head that stayed longer than normal: certainly that colour anyway.
Poor nose: just weak malt notes and an earthy whiff.
The taste is also on the weak side: mildly malty but no depth or 'umph' to the brew at all, a big disappointment to be honest. Maybe it's better fresh or on-tap, but I doubt it. The beer did seem to grow on me a little as I got used to its flavours, there was some bitterness to be found along with those malts mentioned earlier but it still didn't cut the mustard as a good Alt in my eyes.
