This one pours a fairly dark black color, with a small head, and not much lacing.
This smells like cookie dough, black cherry, dark chocolate, oak, and vanilla.
The last version of this barrel aged stout I had was infected - this has some definite dark fruit tones, but that seems to be what I'm supposed to get. There's lots of cookie dough like characteristics - I think the oak and dark chocolate sort of play together to make that connection in my head. There's some vanilla too and a hint of bourbon bitterness.
This is slightly boozy, but still pretty drinkable. It's definitely more thin than the base RIS, but that doesn't bother me a ton.
The barrel aged versions of the Naked Dove RIS are pretty much never as good as the excellent base beer, but some of them have definitely still been worth a try.
