Tapped for the Old Time release, not sure if this is a one off or will make it to bottles. Westbrook's first take on the style, I believe.
A: Pours a very dark brown, almost black, with 1/2 a fingers width of light tan head which dissipates down almost immediately. Leaves zero lacing.
S: Lots of roasted malt aromas, char, burnt black coffee, chocolate. Doesnt really smell like a barleywine, at all. Definitely more stout like.
T: Tastes a little more like a barleywine, but still more stout-ish. Theres a significant amount of sweetness, some booze, roasted malt, subtle dark fruit, bitterness, caramel/toffee.
M/D: Full bodied, a bit syrupy, ABV restrained, drinkablility is average.
O: Overall, good but not great. I enjoyed this one, but with so many great beers from Westbrook I dont think this is one Id add to the regular rotation.

Not exactly sure what the availability of this will be, but it was released on Tap at the Old Time release!
A - Pours a very dark near black color (mostly deep brown with hints of mahogany) with a nice finger of light chocolate colored head. Great retention and lacing. I almost expect a weaker head from a barleywine.
S - A bit too faint. English earthy hops and bitter roasty malts. Mostly smokey/almost burnt malts. Alcohol is almost undetectable and malty sweetness in non-existent in the nose.
T - Smokey/roasty malts. Minimal hoppy bitterness and no sweetness. To me, I think piney/resinous hops and sweet malts - this doesn't really have either. Hops are there but well outshined by roasted/burnt malts.
M - Definitely a thicker, fullish body with hardly any carbonation. A bit of a sipper, as it should be.
O - Honestly, in a blind tasting, I would be inclined to guess that this was a Black IPA more than a barleywine. Tastes decent but not at all like a barleywine in my opinion.
