This one pours a fairly dark black color, with a small head, and not much lacing.
This smells like red wine, black chery, raisin, chili peppers, dark chocolate, oak, vanilla, and cinnamon.
The barrels work incredibly well with the base here. It adds a spicy oak flavor and a tremendous tannic jamminess to the base beer. The dark fruit cherry flavor works quite well with the spiciness of the peppers. It also seems to highlight the chocolatey character of the base beer, appearing as a flavor like chocolate covered raisins.
This is thick and creamy, with a decent level of drinkability, and not really any booziness at all.
This barrel was a great choice to use here - it's unique and brings a lot to the table, and plays off the base beer very well.
