After a quick detour into uncharted territory with our Peanut Butter Shake a few weeks ago we now return to your regularly scheduled fruit program. The Peach Shake IPA employs a frustratingly large amount of peach puree, lactose, and vanilla beans for a creamy and peachy treat.

Canned 07/31/19. The latest installment in the "Shake" Series from Westbrook.

The color on these is always solid; this one is a deep golden orange, very similar to the Mango Shake. Some soft white head bubbles up, but not too much is left as it fizzles out into a thin ring around the beer. Also not much if any lacing.

The nose is great. Tons of tropical overripe mango and of course, peaches. Citrusy undertones round it out, and while I got some initial green hop aromas as soon as I cracked the can, there's nothing but fruit coming from the glass. Definitely get some of that vanilla too, especially as it opens up. I gotta say that so far this is the most well-rounded of this series as far as aromatics.

The palate starts out with a hop-forward peach cobbler quality. The fruity peach is apparent, with a soft vanilla underneath. The hops are green & earthy, giving off a spicy punch that I remember getting a lot of from the Mango Shake as well. Together it combines nicely, and with that cobbler hint, the combination works much better than it did with mango puree as the main adjunct. Surrounding it all is a backbone of pineapple, which helps to both mellow the hops and emphasize those fruity peach flavors.

In most of these Westbrook shakes it seems like the lactose hasn't done really anything for the fruited versions, but here it softens the mouthfeel perfectly. There's still a decent sharpness from the carb, but it finishes smooth and sticky, and with peach burps that even Chick-fil-a's peach milkshake would be proud of.

Received in a trade and shared with JLindros.

A - Poured into a Kate the Great tulip a nice hazy golden orange hue with a thin white head that fades to leave light wisps.

S - Big aromas of lactose and flashes of vanilla. Candied peaches and light pit, flashes of earthy hops as well.

T - Taste is similar to the nose with loads of sweeter vanilla. Tons of lactose going that really gets in the way. Little spicy vanilla too. The peach is really really faint. Light spicy hop as well.

M - Mouthfeel is lightly carbonated, good body, alcohol hidden well.

O - Overall this beer had tons of promise, however, the taste we completely overtaken by the lactose. Really disappointed by this which is a shocker as I don't think I've ever not loved a Westbrook beer.

Thanks to rudzud, canned 7/31/19
Light fizzy head, fades quickly, thick legs and coats the glass, cloudy murky orange peach color

Nose loads of peach, juicy peach and puree, mild raw vanilla and some obvious lactose but not a ton, little apricot like, light citrus

Taste light juicy peach, but overpowered by loads of lactose and earthy spicy vanilla, spicy and a little nutty earthy like, doughy pithy little papery oxidation, some juicy peach, little tropical, so much lactose, dry finish

Mouth is richer, creamy juicy like, very creamy milky, medium creamy carb

Overall meh, peach on the nose was great, but taste was all spicy vanilla and lactose, sad, and why I really don't like this style

L: Had this beer on-tap at Westbrook's tasting room, poured into a taster. Had a yellowish color and a very cloudy consistency. There was a half inch of foamy, somewhat long-lasting head. Fantastic lacing.

S: A light and sweet aroma of peaches (of course), malt, hops, vanilla, lactose, and citrus fruit.

T: Tasted of a small amount of malt (mostly in the finish), a tinge of citrus fruit (lemon, orange), a lot of the advertised peaches (the dominant ingredient), a bit of vanilla, a moderate amount of hops (less than expected), and a light lactose presence (not a huge factor). A very fruity and likable flavor.

F: A decent amount of carbonation with a smooth finish. Medium-bodied.

O: A likable and easy to drink IPA (if you like peaches). Drinkable.
