Stumbled into a bomber at Total Wine-Greenville, SC on 10-6-23 for $25.99. 2023 bottling consumed 10-12-24. A toast to my mother’s 91st birthday!
Beer poured thick black with a smaller tan head that dissipated quickly.
Nose has hints of light to medium roasted malts, chocolate malts, cocoa, leather and vanilla.
Taste is a large mildly roasted malt base that is infused with cocoa nibs that impart a hint of bittersweet and salt that lingers in the background. Bourbon barrel brings a touch of leather and vanilla while the Laphroaig barrels give a touch of smoke and dryness. Finishes salty but balanced with each sip warming.
Mouthfeel is medium to heavy bodied and silky smooth.
Overall, this was a definite splurge, and I liked how this has aged over the last year. Had it at a tasting last fall and it came across a little hot. I am usually not a proponent of aging but i think this can age another 2 years given that it appears Westbrook does not blend barrels often and how hot the first go around was.

22 ounce bottle into a snifter. Had 6/17/23.
Pours really near black and opaque, with a sizzle of a head and oily cling. Aromas of bourbon, chocolate, malt, oak, scotch, smoke, some vanilla, some earthy peat. Flavors of bourbon, chocolate, scotch, malt, cocoa, vanilla, sea salt, oak, some peat. Smooth, a solid full body, appropriately carbonated
Delicious. Has a strong bourbon and scotch barrel presence as well as a great base. Expressive and distinct aromas and flavors. The cocoa nibs help cushion the impact of the peat so that overall, it’s not that prominent. Wish I bought two.
