Vanilla Tree is a Belgian-style dubbel brewed with a variety of dark crystal malts and dark Belgian candi syrup. After fermentation, the beer is aged on whole vanilla beans and toasted oak chips. The result is a wonderfully smooth, malty ale with notes of dark fruit, spice, and (naturally) vanilla and oak!

Thanks to dogdoc for this bottle! Reviewed from (very long-standing) notes. Poured from the 22 oz. bottle into an El Catador teku glass. 2012 vintage bottle, consumed about three years ago.
A: Very hazy to turbid chocolate brown, with a good amount of visible carbonation, especially for a bottle with some age on it. Forms a half-finger of light tan head with decent retention. Pretty, other than oddly murky.
S: Sweet malts, toffee, and sweet molasses. Modestly sweet fruit esters – fleshy fruit mostly. Mild vanilla, and some mild cardboard-y oxidation - but not much.
T: Toasted malts, sweet sugar candy, and molasses. A bit syrupy, then some oak dryness. A touch of oxidation here as well. Modest amount of sweet dark-fruit esters at the swallow. A touch of vanilla finally shows up on the exhale.
M: Body is on the light side of average. Low carbonation sensation. The alcohol flavors seem a bit too prominent.
O: Not particularly good. I don’t know that the age has helped this one (i.e., the oxidation isn’t adding anything), but the adjuncts/flavorings are still there. It's just not a particularly good dubbel. The sweet flavors don’t have the delicate rock sugar or the balanced ester-derived fruity flavors (CHECK DESCRIPTION).
