The beer is 5.2% alc. and offers the palate a balance of dark malt notes with a clean, short bitterness on the finish. The name, 1855, is our way of saluting the great city of Ottawa that has been so good to us.

Ottawa 2019.Clear chestnut brown with a long-lasting head and lacing. Toasty caramel malt nose with a hint of coffee? Medium malt body, very smooth.

473 mL can from the LCBO; the canning date is smudged and illegible. Served slightly chilled.
This brown ale pours a gorgeous, clear copper-amber colour, producing nearly an inch of soapy, off white-tinged head that fades continually over the next five-plus minutes. A smooth, uninterrupted coat of lacing is deposited, with a denser, creamy-looking cap about a 1/2 cm thick surviving atop. The aroma is subdued, yet nutty and intriguing - lightly toasted pecans and bready grains come through, with sponge toffee sweetness and a faint suggestion of coffee. Hints of leafy, grassy hops in there too.
A nice English-style brown ale - though probably a bit hoppier than average, giving this brew elements of an English bitter or even an American amber. Mild caramel and toffee sweetness is joined by toasted grains, hazelnut and doughy bread. Hints of cocoa, followed by a firm hop presence that imparts an earthy, leafy, somewhat herbal bitterness on the back end. Earthy finish that doesn't linger long, resulting in a mostly clean aftertaste - not getting much residual sweetness, if any. Light-medium in body, with restrained carbonation that gently prickles the palate, giving this brew a smooth texture and excellent drinkability.
Final Grade: 3.96, a B+. It may not be an exciting beer, but I think it's fair to say that a true English brown isn't really supposed to be exciting - it's supposed to be quaffable pub fare, and Kichesippi's 1855 is undoubtedly that. This brown is a little more assertive with the hops than most, but actually I find it has a balancing effect - giving the rich, nutty malts and toffee sweetness something of significance to interplay with. Possibly one of Ontario's best traditional browns, and worthy of a try. It took me quite a while to finally find some Kichesippi brews to review, but this was as good an introduction as any.

Purchased at LCBO for around that magical $3.00 mark for a 473ml can. Served at 4deg C in a draught glass
A- Opens well and pours a 1" high off white head that lasts for nearly 5mins before film out. Dark amber colour and filtered clear
S- Nice malty base
T- Lots of malts and almost a honey hint in there. Not all that complex but a nice balance to it though. Mild and smooth
M- Creamy going down then dries out a bit
O- Nice brew. Not great and will not buy again but nice to try.
Food Pairing
This pretty good brew went well with......... Lasagna!
Enjoy

473ml can served cool into a Mill Street pint glass. Purchased from the LCBO for $2.95 CDN.
Appearance - clear dark brown color with loads of carbonation. Plenty of tan coloured head resting on top amounting to a finger and change. Some lacing left behind too.
Smell - grainy notes, caramel some corn sweetness. Nice and easy aromas that pair well with the beer in question.
Taste - clean any grainy with less caramel flavor than expected. Instead mild bitterness and light grain flavor. Nice but not quite as intense or as easy to drink as some of the finer brown ales out there.
Mouthfeel - smooth and very well carbonated, almost to the point of over carbonation. Body is reasonably light and finish is moderate.
Overall - kichesippi 1855 is a reasonably priced reasonably drinkable English brown ale. While I was hoping for some bolder flavours and a little smoother and better drink ability, it is still a reasonably priced and also ably tasty quaff.

Appearance: It has a nice clear orange/copper color to it. It has a thick creamy off-white head that dies down moderately slow and leaves light lacing.
Smell: The aromas definitely give out hints of sweet bready/toasty malts, some nuttiness, sweet caramel and light herbal hops.
Taste: Like the aromas, it has some sweet bready/toasty malts, caramel undertones, some nuttiness and faint herbal/grassy hops.
Mouthfeel: It has a low carbonation with a nice overall balance and feel.
Drinkability: It's a very smooth drinkable beer accompanied by decent flavors and aromas.
