A good American black ale. Taste is like an IPA but with a malty almost chocolarte flavor. N

Aroma is caramel, pine and dark malts. The flavor is grapefruit, citrus, pine needles, dark malts, mild coffee/almost burnt toast and a bitter/spicy/almost rye finish.

Poured from a 12 OZ bottle into a pint glass.
Aroma- Malt, hops and cocoa. nice scent
Appearance- Pitch black with a small dark brown head.
Taste- Really good flavor of malt and cocoa with a hint of hops. well done
Palate- A medium bodied beer with mild carbonation, looks like a stout but drinks like an IPA
Overall- A really good example of an American Black Ale.

Appearance: Pitch black, beige head, OK lacing (4.00)
Aroma: Roast that borders on burnt coffee with a hint of soy sauce. Faint piney hops (3.5)
Flavor: Luckily not quite so bracing on the palate. Smoother roast and chocolate, but again the hop flavor is pretty muted. You can get a touch of citrus and pine though. Almost more of a robust porter. (3.75)
Mouthfeel: Medium bodied and carbonated. Dissipating finish (3.8)
Overall: 3.75

Served in an Ohio State shaker pint glass.
What is this, a beer commemorating the unification of the German Empire? Anyway, this stuff pours a dark garnet-tinged sienna topped by a finger of light khaki foam. The nose comprises dark chocolate (straight bakers' style, yo), odd pine resin, a hint of wintergreen, and a touch of treacle. The taste brings in more of the same, with the inherent bitterness of the constituent parts really trashing the place, fighting with each other as much as my tongue. Luckily, though, things disappear after a short while, keeping me from having to taste this for very long. The body is a light medium, with a light moderate carbonation and a drying finish. Overall, were it not for the lack of lingering flavor, this would be pretty awful. Still, it ain't very good at all, my general bias against the style notwithstanding. Weak and clashy.

For a BLACK IPA - I love this beer. It is so easy drinking. I thought it looked like a porter but drank like a lager and felt like an IPA.
It is Smokey, creamy, and has a slight after taste of coffee. It is one of the very few Black IPA's out there that are good.
I love this beer. This is a great after dinner beer to relax too.
