After spending two hours hiking around the uterine of the Namur Citadel (Yep, the Belgians call the tunnels in their castles uteruses) I stopped for a beer in the Restaurant du Panorama. Nice view and good beer. This one poured into the proper glass a dark brown with a thick and everlasting tan head. Very pretty with dancing carbonation streams. The aroma and flavor were not unlike Leffe Bruin. Smells very figgy with plenty of prunes. Rich dark malts and dried fruit yeast make up the bulk of the flavor along with a little candied sugar and a touch of coriander spice in the finish. Smooth, medium bodied, with a nice carbonation bite at the finish. Simple but solid beer. Very enjoyable.

A bit of yeast aroma, apple juice with whitish yeasty head. Rather strong carbonation and orange marmelaide yeast taste. A bit spicey, got some corriander. Licorice the manufacturer says, I had this on the lips at the end. A small bottle gone quickly. A pale Belgian.

Bottle: Poured a deep brown color ale with a big foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of candi sugar with some dry fruits and some spicy yeast. Taste is also dominated by some candi sugar and spicy yeast with a nice enough malt backbone. Carbonation is great with a slightly thin body for the style and no apparent alcohol.

Appearance: Crystal clear. Huge head. Nice lacing. Reddish brown colored. Beautiful

Smell: Head blocks too much of the aromas. Candi sugar, Yeasty goodness.

Taste: Prune, Bread, Malt. estery finish

Mouthfeel: a bit watery. Not heavy.

overall: A pretty complex beer. Balance is a little off but overall decent.

Pours a brown ale color with a thick creamy tan head that leaves loads of lacing around the glass. Medium amounts of carbonation.

Smell is of figs, fruits, yeast, alcohol

Taste is very malty with some subtle spicy notes, alcohol is present but not unpleasant.

Very good beer I would have anther and keep it stocked.

Best before 31-02-06. Poors in fine leaving a great & lasting thick head that leaves laces, Darkbrown to black beercolor and clear. Nose is great, great( dry) hoparome going to american (C) hops. Sweetmalty and litle spicy complete a great nose. Taste is very good too; malty( mostly caramellic), hoppy, spicyness and litle sweet make it a heavy bodied beer. This with good carbonisation make mouthfeel complete and drinkability is( litle less then the great blonde but still) good and would love to have another one.

S: mild nose, roasted malt with sweeter undertones
T: mild taste, sweeter but non-descript overall
M: sweet, thin and disappointing mouthfeel
O: non-descript, sweet, thin, I can't believe this was on tap in Belgium

Beer bottle (33 cl.), tasted in 2002.

Appearance : dark brown color, with huge tan foamy head (persistent).
Smell : sweet alcohol and spices aromas.
Taste and mouthfeel : sweet with very little hops balance, and roasted malt flavours.
Drinkability : a good beer in the style Belgian strong dark ale.

Slightly astringent finish on this brune, leaves sour taste on palate. Wine/cola aroma, dark but clear brown, with airy head that leaves lots of lacing on the glass. Taste...prune juice? The sweetness sets this one apart from the pack of Belgian brunes....

I had a bottle of this at a a restaurant next to Brasserie Des Fagnes. If I had known how much I was going to like this beer, I would have opted for to have it at the source. Too bad...

It was served in the correct brewery glass. Clear brown color, nice off-white foam. I think it appeared exceptionally clear due to no floating yeast.

The flavor was dominated by sweet malt, with a really nice after-taste. Barely any hops at all, maybe just enough to make it more than one-dimensional. It reminded me a little of Leffe Brun, but slightly more agressive.

I will try to find this again in the future, and I also want to try the Blond. But it will probably be a while, because it seems to only be available in a small geographic region way south of Brussels.
