750ml bottle - awesome label, what with all those 'corporate values' buzz phrases littered about.
This beer pours a murky, medium apricot amber colour, with four fingers of puffy, loosely foamy, and bubbly beige head, which empowers some thickly webbed lace around the glass as it slowly sinks out of sight.
It smells of semi-sweet, bready and doughy caramel malt, a lesser astringent rye graininess, boozy white wine, muddled earthy yeast, a touch of barnyard funkiness, mixed domestic citrus peel, and some tame leafy, herbal, and floral noble hop bitters. The taste is gritty and grainy caramel malt, sort of biscuity toffee, crackery rye bread, sweet green grapes, ethereal yeast, a hint of earthy spiciness, and more understated herbal, grassy, and gently soused-up floral green hoppiness.
The carbonation is fairly laid-back in its insouciant frothiness, the body a solid middleweight, and generally smooth, with just a suggestion of alcohol ingress taking this window of opportunity to perhaps mar the occasion, as such. It finishes off-dry, the blended malt and sugary white wine essences definitely exhibiting their lingering core competencies.
Overall - while I'm not about to say that this one has given its full (?) 110%, it has shown adherence to best practices, in that it has done well to think outside the box (box of Pinot Blanc, that is!). Full of serviceable flavour, and something that wouldn't be difficult to convince me to buy-in anew. Phew - I think I'm gonna go watch Office Space now with the rest of this monster.
