Poured from a 22oz bottle into a speiglau IPA glass.
Note* Not sure what the age is on this beer, but I am going to review as is.
Color is an orange hazy yellow with a thin head.
In the smell the coco nibs definitely come through with a slight citrus note.
Taste is kinda chalky chocolate blended with a good ipa. Doesn't necessarily work.

22oz bottle with my FW snifter glass
Tasted on 12/02/2014 – Big thanks to mdfb79 for this extra. Cheers Dan!
A: Bright golden peach hue with a light cloudy unfiltered look to it. Nice and healthy ivory topper rises about two fingers high in the glass and holds over for a few prolonged moments. Tatters the glass with some broken rings of lace as it slowly subsides back down.
S: Interesting floral, peach, and assorted stone fruit elements from the nose. Has a touch of ashy char to it which is unexpected. Some malt sweetness there but nothing that jumps out as chocolate or cocoa. Not really sure what to make of this one. Starts off fairly nice but definitely some other things going on here and making it interesting.
T: Flavor delivers this crazy wild green floral character. Not sure if that is the nibs in affect or what but it is quite exotic. I get some stone fruit like yeast esters there and a healthy use of Caramel malts lending an overall sweetness to the brew. There is a high level of hop bitterness to this one and some alcohol presence. Has a finish of earthy roast nuttiness. Again not jumping out at me as chocolate or cocoa but definitely different and adding a nicely interesting twist.
M: Moderate heft to this one with a nice creamy texture and spritzy carb action. There is higher level of peppery bitterness about mid palate that segues into a bit of drying at the finish. Kind of clean and not all that resinous.
D: A very interesting brew to try. Didn’t come off as a Chocolate IPA as I had imagined. Rather something completely different and new with some exotic floral and roast character. Not really a fav but very fun to check out.

A bright, hazy, sunshine gold liquid in the glass. A healthy pour tropical and from a 22 oz bomberBright white head that leaves some wide streaks and spots of lace. Lots of particles floating in the glass. Smell is thick with tropical notes and has me warm all over. A citrusy splash in the nose cuts through and cleans up the tight bond between the light sweet malty base and island fruits. The cocoa nibs ad depth and heartiness to a malt core that is on the lighter side. Taste is a real eye opener. Hoppy with lots of tropical fruits, grapefruit skin, and the nibs. Those nibs add a depth to the taste that is only hinted at in the nose. This is an eclectically complex beer that really shines. Citrus keeps this one in the refreshing camp. Malt is light and with a touch of honey sweetness. A firm whole wheat white breadiness that is built up by the cocoa nibs. A bit of alcoholic heat that rests on to tongue for a while.Finish brings out a roastiness that cannot be from the malt as it is too light, nibs again. Dry and long oiliness hanging out. Feel is full but lightish, creamy, and quenching. This is a kick but brew and perfect for this time of year.

A: The beer is hazy yellow in color. It poured with a quarter finger white head that died down but consistently left thick lacing covering the surface and a collar around the edge of the glass.
S: Light to moderate aromas of citrusy hops are present in the nose along with notes of cocoa nibs.
T: The taste has a lot more initial flavors of cocoa nibs but then transitions towards citrusy hops, the latter of which linger through the finish.
M: It feels medium-bodied on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: I've had coffee IPAs before, but this cocoa IPA is a first for me. It was very interesting.
