Can poured into a Russian River Brewing Co pub glass

A: Pours hazy golden yellow with a frothy off white head that settles to a dense layer and leaves some nice lacing.

S: Citrus and tropical fruit, vanilla, melon, sweet cream, and just a touch of biscuity malt.

T: Melon, cantaloupe and honeydew up front followed by a fairly noticeable alcohol note, plenty of sweetness from the lactose, vanilla, a tropical fruit, papaya and mango, citrus, orange and lime, and biscuity malt.

M: Medium body, moderate carbonation, slightly creamy, but with a noticeable alcohol presence and warmth.

O: Pretty sure this is my first milkshake IPA, really not a fan. In this case the alcohol comes out way too easily and when combined with the lactose and vanilla it hides a lot of the hoppy side in a harsh sugary mess. I can kinda see this kinda science experiment working if they scaled it back a fair bit, but as it sits, this one is kind of a hot mess.

Looks good, smells good. Kind of a punch in the mouth with the vanilla. Tasted like a cream float spiked with vodka. Sometimes I could be into that, but not really what I was expecting.

Fun to pass around to casual beer drinkers, very approachable, and a decent milk shake, but would be better with a lighter grain bill and with less lactose.

Batch #001 Not sure when this was canned but this batch tastes like a bowl of cantaloupes. Sprinkle some sweet cream on top with some citrus juice and that’s about it. If that’s what you’re looking for. Snag it!

One of my first "milkshake" IPAs if not the first - I don't remember for sure. Thick and sticky, this incorporates the vanilla sweetness without becoming cloying. Not bitter at all. I'm not sure this style would ever be a favorite of mine, but for what it is it's not bad at all.

New Evil Twin CANned Beer Sunday (Week 692) may be closed, but I am not done! Not by a little bit, anyway. I got up early to attend our city's annual Memorial Day ceremony at the square & now, I am ready for a beer. The name is sound advice, but I would amend it to read: "Every Day, [At Least] Once A Day ..."

From the CAN: "Double Dry Hopped India Pale Ale brewed with Lactose and Vanilla Extract added".

The fun began with the Crack!ing open of the vent, followed by a heavy-handed Glug into the awaiting glass. The mention of "Lactose" signaled that it was going to be yet another hazebro AIPA & I was not pleased by the prospect. It foamed up nicely to form a finger of dense, foamy, bone-white head that rather quickly fizzled into wisps, leaving behind modest lacing. Color was a lightly-hazy Yellow-Gold (SRM = 4 - 5). Sigh. Nose was VERY tropical and VERY vanilla! It was so far out of spec for the style that it should be the poster child for a new style designation. Mouthfeel was medium, but kind of light for a DIPA. The taste was terrifyingly sweet! Loads of tropical fruit, massive amounts of powdered milk and an abundance of vanilla. They must have had a vanilla surplus recently as it was also used in their Rhubarb Compote Sour, although I enjoyed it a little more in that instance. Here, it was sweet on top of sweet piled high with more sweet. Ugh. Stop this playing around & futzing with styles! I could be accused of rating to taste here, but I am thinking of it in terms of its style. I am not enjoying it personally because it does not measure up to the style descriptors. I want & expect bitterness, NOT CANdy-like sweetness! 8={} Finish remained sweet & I was left shaking my head. I generally like what Evil Twin Brewing is doing, but this was not one of those instances.

16 oz. can

Pours hazy cloudy amber gold with a creamy white foam head. Smells like intense tropical fruits, big pungent pineapple, passionfruit, mango, grapefruit, orange citrus, lemon, lime, tangelo, some creamy lactose, vanilla, caramelized bready crackery malt, with dank floral earthy herbal grassy pine. Tastes like tangelo, sweet citrusy tropical fruits, sweet vanilla, creamy lactose, pineapple, passionfruit, mango, grapefruit, orange citrus, lemon, lime, some caramelized bready crackery malts, with dank floral earthy herbal grassy pine. Feels medium bodied, creamy smooth with moderate low carbonation. Overall a nice and interesting DIPA with lactose and vanilla extract.

No dating on the can, "Batch #001 12:30".

Pours a orange hued gold with a quarter finger of rapidly dissipating white head. The can says "brewed with lactose and vanilla extract added" and HO BOY can you tell. Nose of huge vanilla extract (almost chemically) + powdered milk followed by nectarine, peach, pine needle and pale sweet malt. There may be more aromas there but the the vanilla is extremely overpowering. Taste follows the nose with the milky vanilla running roughshod over the other notes, maybe some indistinct citrus. Smooth, creamy medium+ body on this one. Low bitterness/dryness and overly massive sweetness. I almost feel like this was brewed by Evil Twin to mock the "milkshake IPA" trend.

Pours a hazy golden straw color. Smells of tropical fruits and a hint of vanilla. Taste is heavy orange, pineapple, and mango with a bit of vanilla. Good balane between the hop bitterness and sweetness from the lactose. Nice creamy mouthfeel.
