A stout perfect for those cooler nights before the summer humidity sets in. Imperial Stout Brewed with Vanilla, Macaroon Cut Coconut, Toasted Coconut and Macadamia Nuts. Notes of rich milk chocolate, sweet coconut flesh, vanilla, cookie dough. Full bodied. Silky mouthfeel.

5 March 2020 - Beer #42

Price: $8.99 at Clinton Gourmet Corp. in Manhattan

Appearance: 5 - pitch black with a dark mocha head. Stunning. Not even any redness around the edges.

Nose: 4 - smells like a nice, roasty stout, but not much adjunct. Maybe a touch of vanilla.

Taste: 4 - right, still not much adjunct. It's quite sweet. Pretty boozy. Mostly just stout.

Mouth: 5 - very thick and oily. Almost solid on the swallow.

Overall: 4 - a fine pastry stout without much pastry.

Cheers!

Odell snifter

Big foamy red head of 3 fingers on top of a oily inky black body with infinite depth.

Aromas of heavy chocolate and slight coconut, some faint coffee tones, and a hint of dark fruit. Almost some barrel notes in there too.

Flavor is deep dark chocolate, some vanilla, hints of shortbread and coconut, and slight nuttiness. Finishes out on sugary churro and macadamia cookie.

Feel is thick and viscous, very good, sticky, slightly dry, minimal warming alcohol at 12% which is impressive, up until the back palate where it warms up some; very sticky finish.

Overall an incredible pastry stout, not their top, but you won't be left wanting much.

Had on tap at District Tap House in NYC; typical Evil Twin imperial stout good looks with a pitch black and a thick mocha colored head that faded slowly and left minimal spotty lacing. Smells like roasted malt, dark chocolate, smoked grains, burnt coffee grinds, metallic notes, roasted nuts, coconut, brownie batter and chocolate milk. It hides the ABV well and is not overly sweet. It had the ET dessert stout aroma which was complex and close to the guest ingredients used.

Taste was a little on the sweet side, but for me it was still a real nice slow sipper that hid the 13% booze and allowed the roasted malt, vanilla, coconut, toasted nuts, dark chocolate, burnt coffee grinds, molasses, milk chocolate, char or smoky hints and metallic flavors to blend together for another creative and tasty stout by Evil Twin.

On tap at Allen Burger Venture in Buffalo, NY.

This one pours a dark black color, with a small head, and not much lacing.

This smells like roasted malt, smoke, dark chocolate, macadamia nuttiness, toasted coconut, cookie dough, and coffee.

Like most Evil Twin beers, this has a solid roasted, smokey, and very "black" flavor to it. There's definitely a lot of coconut and macadmia, super toasty and moderately sweet. There's some bitter coffee, caramel, and cookie dough-like flavors, too.

This is pretty thick, and creamy, with a slight lingering boozines. It's definitely a beer to sip slowly.

This is definitely pretty decadent, but it's not quite the sweet pile of pastry monstrosity I expected. It's got some nice bitter stoutiness to balance it out.

On tap at Muted Horn. Dark tan head. Black color.

Chocolate, coconut, nuts, caramel, fudge, cake batter. Pastry stout thickness. Rich, full bodied. Very enjoyable.

A: The beer is jet black in color. It poured with a short dark tan head that left small patches of tan bubbles on the surface and a collar around the edge of the glass after subsiding.
S: Moderate aromas of milk chocolate are present in the nose. Hints of toasted coconut also become perceptible as the beer begins to warm up.
T: The taste has flavors of milk chocolate with notes of toasted coconuts and hints of macadamia nuts.
M: It feels medium- to full-bodied and very smooth on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer has a very nice balance of milk chocolate and coconut flavors and a exceptionally smooth mouthfeel. What was even more impressive was how well it hid any traces of alcohol from the taste. If I was blindfolded and had to make a guess, I would say that this beer was more in the order of 8% abv, not something that is 13% abv.

Served in a teku glass from the can.

Appearance: this Brew comes off incredibly thick looking like dark chocolate syrup with a dark tan head rising another over two fingers length with a vigorous pour.

Smell: smells like vanilla bean but a little lighter not super potent to the nostrils. Warm brown sugar if you ever made a caramel it has a lighter note of it.

Taste: very complex with light coconut heavy molasses, vanilla bean which is super smooth and did not overly sweet.

Mouth: super sticky beer the taste just lingers consisting of toffee vanilla and light coconut.

Overall: as incredible as his beer is it is not my favorite eviltwin beer but definitely one of my top three imperial Stouts created by this genius. If you're lucky to ever have this beer buy another it is well worth it. Salud!
