21 March 2020 - Beer #54

Corona Day #9

Price: $10.75 at Milk & Hops Upper East Side in Manhattan

Appearance: 5 - pitch black with a dark mocha head. Lacing is highly attractive.

Nose: 5 - yep, marshmallow stout all the way. Very sweet.

Taste: 4 - more pleasant than intense. Plenty of stout and marshmallow. Nothing crazy.

Mouth: 5 - extremely think, like drinking liquid marshmallow. You can almost choke on it.

Overall: 5 - perhaps the best stout from ETNYC. Looking forward to the next.

Cheers!

This one pours a fairly dark black color, with a small head, and not much lacing at all.

This smells like melted and kind of fake smelling marshmallow, caramel, molasses, roast, and lots of booze.

I wanted to like this, as I've liked the handful of stouts I've had from Evil Twin NYC so far. But, this one falls pretty flat for me. Marshmallow and beer always feels a bit too sweet, gummy, and artificial to me, compared to using actual vanilla. This also feels extremely boozy and bitter, and almost stale on the back end, while also feeling molasses-like and syrupy at times. It was hard to finish.

This is medium bodied, syrupy, and lightly carbonated. It's not drinkable at all, it was hard to finish the can.

Boiler Snifter

Deep silky black with a tall creamy almond head of 2 fingers, receding to a thick ring with a bunch of lace.

Aromas of marshmallow, almond, graham, chocolate, caramel, and vanilla.

Flavor is crazy good. Tons of wonderful marshmallow creme, chocolate bar, vanilla spice, caramel candy, and slight earthy hop.

Feel is slick and viscous; creamy, slightly roasty, and has a nice warming alcohol to it but dangerously hidden despite the high ABV.

Overall, absolutely f**king phenomenal again. Totally on point. Evil Twin NYC has never ever disappointed me. Not once. I hope they make this again, it's truly exceptional.

A: The beer is essentially jet black in color and only has slight traces of dark brown near the corners of the glass when it is held up to a bright light. It poured with a short mocha-colored head that rapidly dissipated completely.
S: Light to moderate aromas of chocolate are present in the nose along with hints of vanilla and bits of alcohol.
T: The taste has flavors of chocolate and toasted marshmallows along with notes of caramel and slight hints of vanilla. No alcohol is perceptible.
M: The beer is full-bodied and quite smooth on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation. No warming from the alcohol is perceptible.
O: This beer is like a liquid dessert. With a consistency of thick motor oil, I can only imagine how many calories are in this one. In any event, it's rather drinkable considering its strength because any traces of alcohol are very well hidden from the taste.
