And from the "What were you thinking" department comes a cherry cola inspired sour ale that blends the elements of soft drinks with hard drinks in Evil Twin's search for something that's not been done in the beer world.
It's that uniquness that allows Cherry Cola Sour pouring a dull brown color and spritzy with a short, quick froth. Caramelized aromas are dead on cola while aspects of cherry, lemon, nuttiness and gentle spices tease the nose with the soft drink scent but with a twinge of tartness. Sweet on the tongue, the cola influence is strong while layering the tongue with cola nut, chocolate, caramel and cream.
Plop in the cherry flavors and the middle palate is enlivened by the caffeinated taste of the sweeter cherry RC colas, that's perhaps been left uncapped in the fridge for about a week. The tartness pulls from the cherry and seems lemon-like with hints of cider, lemon, lime and tropical fruit. A balance is spicy and remiss of lemon honey cough drops for more of a curious twist on the late palate.
An obvious gimmick of a beer, the tackiness of sugary colas plague the finish with the same finishing tack here along with a tart and spicy aftertaste that's of two drastically different beers fighting for attention in the same glass. There's probably a reason why the worlds of beer and soda pop have been separate all these years.
