23 July 2020 - Beer #150
Corona Day #133
Price: $8.49 at Food Emporium on 8th Avenue in Manhattan
Appearance: 5 - I've never seen a beer this dark purple. It looks like a dry red wine.
Nose: 5 - yep, blueberry pancakes. Very jammy, and packed with berries.
Taste: 4 - not the blast of fruit I was expecting. It's more pancake forward. An interesting take.
Mouth: 4 - fairly thick for a sour. Quite bubbly.
Overall: 4 - extremely fun to drink. This is definitely the longest name of a beer I've had.
Stay safe out there, team.
Cheers!

Drank on tap at Evil Twin Brewing NYC, Queens, NY
Served in a stange
The beer poured a completely opaque oxblood hue. Thick and viscous, like fruit nectar. The body was capped by an inch-tall, frothy, light magenta crown that slowly faded to a medium sized collar. A wall of drippy lacing coated the glass from top to bottom.
Berry smoothie notes dominated the aroma. Freshly pureed berries, to be exact. Blackberry came through strongest. Lots of raspberry too. Perhaps some blueberry as well. Tart and slightly sweet. By the drink’s end, the maple notes finally came forth.
The flavor profile was also fantastic. Again, berry notes dominated. Blackberry was most apparent. Some raspberry was noticeable as well. Nice balance of sweet and tart. Subtle creamy vanilla notes appeared in the center. This was perhaps the milk sugar. Some lemony tartness also came through here. Crisp and slightly acidic. The beer finished tart and tangy with a hint of lingering salinity.
Nice creamy mouthfeel. Slick and smooth on the palate. Fuller bodied perhaps for the style. The liquid contained a super fine, mild effervesce that suited the beer perfectly.
With so many adjuncts, I was afraid this beer might come across as an overly sweet, disjointed mess, but that definitely was not the case. The berry notes played a starring role, and the vanilla, maple and milk sugar were just there as accents. Overall, really well done.

Appearance: Pours a deep purple color as the blackberry juice dominates; the head is lavender and while it fades to a ringlet, the lacing is splashy
Smell: Blackberry and blueberry dominates, with the maple, vanilla and milk sugar producing the pancake that underpins
Taste: Lactic blackberry forward with the blueberry and raspberry peeking through; underneath, the pancake flavors of milk sugar, maple and vanilla add a subtle sweet character; increasingly tart, through the middle, but the sweet element creates considerable complexity; the salt is barely detectable until the end
Mouthfeel: Medium body with moderate carbonation; moderate pucker
Overall: This is a really interesting beer with a lot going on; my fear of the kitchen sink in reading the label here was unjustified
Thanks, devoured by vermin, for the opportunity
