Tastes like a cross between a root beer and a gose style sour. It is quite amazing though looks of root beer and smells like it too. While it's a sweet cola inspired beer I appreciate it's creativity and was happy to drink it

It looks like a root beer. Pours like a root beer. Mostly smells and tastes like a root beer. Root beer colored body
with a flash of a head. Carbonated walls just like any soda. The aroma is mostly root beer with some lactic sour and lagery notes entwined. The taste is also mostly root beer, maybe a bit like Virgil's, but extra soury.
The taste is definitely more sour than a root beer which combined with some lagery notes makes it a bit weird, but I'm going to have to give it to Evil Twin on this one because despite being a bit sickly sweet, it's damn close and I really appreciate what they've done here. If I were drinking this blind I would swear I wasn't drinking a beer but either a weird spiked root beer or simply some skunked root beer. It does have its drawbacks in terms of being too sour and thick on the tongue to the point of tasting like a liquid Sweetart as it warms and decarbonates, which make this unadvised for sessionability. In addition, the milk sugar became a lot more pronounced as it warmed up. Either way, this was a fun one.
Canned on 5/28/21 and consumed on 7/11/21. Purchased in October 2021 at a supermarket in Capitol Hill, Seattle.

i think this is different than the one they did from nyc, but i could be wrong, its a continuation of the soda series, five bucks a twelve ounce, worth a try to me as the grape and the orange soda ones were both kind of fun, this was made at twelve percent, not evil twin nyc. the can says malt beverage, where others have said sour ale, and its actually made with root beer syrup, not to mention lactose and caramel color. i get what they are going for here, a fusion of hard soda and beer, but this is so artificial its almost plastic to me, and where the novelty of the fruit sodas was fun, this is over the top sugary, cheap, and hard to drink, the first beer i have given more to the drain than my belly in a long long time, immediately to be followed by the cola one, although thats for the next review i guess. pale brown in color, easily a shade lighter than any root beer ive had, active creamy head though looks the part. it smells tangy, maybe a sour base after all, and like a root beer barrel candy thats been left to melt on a hot sidewalk, sweet and fake, it immediately makes me wish this was brewed with all the herbs and spices that actually comprise good root beer, not just the syrup. the taste is the same, identifiable as root beer sugar, totally saccharine though, hangs on my teeth and tongue forever, drinks like candy, even with some acidity, and although i can appreciate the soda itself, some vanilla, and think its a decent go at this concept, its just so sweet and artificial, i cant imagine drinking the whole can of this, let alone multiples, and for me this ranks maybe as the worst of them, but the cola was close. novelty item at best, i feel like evil twin could do so much more wit this idea than this...

Doing their part to chase adults into diabetes, Evil Twin shows that soda pops aren't just for kids anymore. Modeled after the classic all-American root beer soft drink, this soda suddenly becomes a hard drink.

Root Beer pours with a convincing deep brown color, but its frothier froth shows that there's more than a fizzy soda within. With the clumping nature of precipitants floating about, the nose leads with a tangy fruitiness, deep savory sweetness, root spices and a candied nuttiness to capture the scent of root beer perhaps mixed with a splash of wine. Sweeter to taste, the deep caramels lean on aspects of both toffee and molasses with a honey-like floral maltiness.

As the flavors open up on the middle palate, the beer shows more complexity but is also a disjointed taste among the sweetnesses and spices. Sarsaparilla, peppercorn, tea, licorice, cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, allspice and a floral type of spices are all individualistic as the sweet and syrupy beer finishes malty like cola but also tart with grape, lemon and cherry.

Medium bodied and considered fuller because of its cloying sweetness, the soda-inspired beer closes with a unique sour twang that's as redolent of lemon colas as it is of root beer. It's a curious session that trails into a tart spicy blend that begs for a glass of water to cut the thirst.

Another ET beer that really defies description. A cross between a sour and a root beer. Thankfully this is not 'Not Your Father's Root Beer.'

A: Looks like Mug, Hires, or your other favorite root beer. Muddy brown with a big dump of light cream colored foam. Explicit lace.

S: Sweet caramelized sugar followed by an herbal retreat to sassafras, birch...both catty sour and sweet sappiness.

M: Tingly start, light-med body. Spritzy, ephemeral.

T: What started as a diabetic red flag of root beer syrup transitions rather quickly to a lemon curd and sour cherry tartness. Sweet graham cracker, herbal and earthy sarsaparilla.
