a pretty clear golden hue, little white head and lacing, smells like apple cinnamon oatmeal, tastes like an hard apple cider. A decent full mouthfeel and nice sparkling carbonation. A pretty good sour, not something I would seek outside of spring/fall weather.

Not really sour, just a touch of tart, but wow the apple flavor is front and center. This tastes like an apple cider, apple pie, and a beer crossed paths. A little sweet, obviously, but really tasty. A fun experience and possibly one of the most accurate representations of a claimed flavor profile you would not expect out of a beer.

i love evil twin most of the time and generally feel a pretty strong compulsion to buy new beer from them, this one included, but i almost backed out when this ended up close to seven bucks a can, come on guys, thats absurd, but then drinking it now, i realize i would be bummed if i never tasted it, its truly one of the best and most natural tasting apple beers i have ever had from anyone, and its special, if this is what it costs, than i am reluctantly in, obviously. its clearer than i thought it would be, fizzy, cider toned in color from the gorgeous visual can, and drinks like a beer more than a cider, as apple driven as it is, which really is the most impressive part of this. i think its a huge stretch to call it a sour, its no more acidic than the little bit of tartness in a green apple, and i think its also a reach to call it an ipa, as hops are definitely behind apple in this, but also behind a little cinnamon and vanilla, a pie crust element, to say this is hop driven at all just isnt true. usually i hate lactose in this sort of thing, but i love it here, adds some body and softens the apple. i love that the fruit tasted fresh here and not baked or stewed, even though its a baked apple dessert its modeled on, and even with all the obvious brown sugar and fall spice elements. its warming but its also curiously refreshing, lightly lactic, citric, and clean, i believe this to be wrongly listed here as a wild ale. honest real fruit apple and apple pie character, some cinnamon too but not over flavored somehow, and weirdly drinkable and refreshing for what it is, never had anything like it and am fully stoked on it. for all the weird ideas that never play out well in the actual liquid for evil twin, this one really exceeds expectations. so what if its not really an ipa, its downright wonderful. more fall than spring, but whatever. this is dialed and special, worth the price even. cant say enough about it! somehow not a cider at all despite how apple forward it is. blown away. my wife quotes, "thats dank as shit" which really says all you need to know...

Aroma is apples, fruit/hint of floral and mild sweetness. The flavor is apples, malts, fruit/berries and a slightly spicy cinnamon/tart/mild/medium sweet finish.

16oz can. Poured out a clear, golden color with a small, white head of foam. It smelled like fresh apples with hints of tart lemon. Great apple sweetness with a tart bite.

In what's likely the most apple-y apple beer that ever appled, Evil Twin could have made a cider easier than this. But its wouldn't have the same Sour Ale nuances. Being a beer at its heart, this is about as far as the Apple Ale can be pushed.

So, with a plan like that, the beer's name is basically its mission statement. Granny Smith's Delicious Gala Macintosh Apple Streusel (Whew!) pours a faintly hazed champagne-like chrome color before adorning a loose and frothy ivory cap. Easily disguised as cider, the nose is chocked full of all-things-apple along with finer nuances of cream, pastry dough and a light burlap must. Gentle sweetness of light cream and vanilla further pull the taste into a mild realm of apple pie.

Yet as the flavors become battered by the orchard fruit, the beer's underlying sour flavors bring elements of lime, lemon, green berries, sharper crabapple, kiwi and white grapefruit for a rounded sourness and spiciness. Trending sharply sour, this is where the beer further departs from cider. Piquant with nearly hints of vinegar, the finish comes swiftly with a light cedar and bass wood dryness.

Light, crisp and refreshing, the beer's lactose and sugar flavors add a savory and gently sweet balance that doesn't interfere with drinkability. Finishing with a bold taste of apple skins, the beer extends briefly with pie crust and cream in a quick echo afterward.
