Base stout is very roasty and hoppy then the barrel brings that sweet, dark fruit and port notes. Didnt really mesh well together. Either needed more barrel time or a stronger barrel to assert its influence. The port ended up taking a back seat to the aggressive base stout.

as a first beer back after a dry january, this was pretty special, heck its special even without the context, so much so that i almost felt guilty drinking it and getting back to "normal" in that way. a robust as they come base dark beer, imperial in every way, rich roasted dark grain, bitter coffee fullness, intense dark chocolate character, motor oil viscosity, some smoke, raisin, burnt pepper, and old oak, it doesnt even need a port barrel to be epic, but that treatment takes it somewhere else, really lucky to find this on tap, especially in idaho! moderate luster in the glass, leggy, smooth looking, lathery mocha head easily excitable. lovely aroma of purple grape candy from the port pushing through the dark malts, charcoal and roast, heady espresso crema, walnut, and vanilla, lots going on, a little alcohol too but more an enhancement than a distraction, odd as it seems. the flavor follows, heavy layers of chocolate throughout, fudge, only a little sweet, a lot bitter, pipe tobacco and rum raisin, all the goodness of a decadent port at temperature, high carbon, licorice, muscovado sugar, dope coffee. this is impressively good, and i almost cant imagine it without the port barrel, it adds so much, the wood, the vanilla essence, and this vinous richness, grape goodness, and fruity lightness to an otherwise enormously heavy brew. a high point in the recent evil twin lexicon...

No canning date. Can to tumbler.

Look: Pours a very dark, almost black brown with a light brown head. Some floaters.

Smell: Dark chocolate and coffee. Port wine barrel notes clearly detectable.

Taste: Tastes as it smells. There’s dark chocolate, there’s coffee. Both lending a certain bitterness. A bit of heat and some fruity notes from the barrel.

Feel: Nicely carbonated, but not as full-bodied as expected. Quite crushable for a stout with 12%.

Overall: Evil Twins base stout with a twist. The port wine barrels complement the chocolaty and coffeeish notes quite nicely and contribute to an overall smooth drinkabilty. However, it’s still a bit edgy with its dark bitterness and its subtle fruitiness. Nice one.

Purchased for $7. Strange that it's an 11.2 oz can, not sure what drove them to do that. I've had other Jesus beers from Evil Twin, so i thought i'd give this one a whirl. I'm not pouring this one out, i'm drinking it straight from the can, so i can't really remark on head or color, although a little of the beer has pooled around the rim of the can and that appears to be muddy dark brown. It's also difficult to smell a beer through a tiny can lid so maybe this is an unfair rating. Taste is quite bitter. It's definitely an imperial stout, as it's thick and dark and heavy, but there is a tinge of wine taste to this as it was aged in port wine barrels. There's also a rush of bittersweet chocolate and coffee grounds. It's a pretty thick mouthfeel, and overall it has kind of a dry finish. I've preferred other Jesus beers to this one, guess I'm not a fan of the port wine.

12 ounce can, no dating that I noticed on it. ET-18 19 stamped on the bottom of the can. Served in a snifter, the beer pours dark brown/black with about an inch or so brown head that stayed around a while. There's also a lot of lacing. Aroma is nice, the brew smells like dark fruit, port, roasted malt, oak, chocolate and a bit of coffee. The taste follows the aroma for the most part, but with the addition of some burnt/charred malt, dark chocolate and caramel flavors. Good amount of port barrel/dark fruit in both the taste and aroma. Mouthfeel/body is full, it's coating and a bit creamy with a moderate amount of carbonation. I think this is a pretty good imperial stout, but then I've also liked the other Aún Más A Jesús brews that I've tried. Worth getting a can or 2 if you come across some!

Poured into a Fremont small snifter. mahogany brown, appearing opaque black in the glass with a thin brown head that dissipates to patches with light lacing. Aroma of dark toasted malt, cocoa, coffee, oak and light Port. Flavor is dark toasted malt with light char, oak, dry fortified wine, licorice, cocoa; dry woody finish with coffee and red wine character. Medium bodied with light creaminess. Recognizable Jesus imperial malt body, but a bit more smokey and woody. Good cocoa and oak barrel notes. The Port gives this more of a dry red wine or dry generic fortified wine character with not much Port flavor standing out. Remarkable oak and piney wood flavors in the finish interact well with the char in the malt. Interesting and flavorful as always with this series. Trying this just after a Port barreled barleywine the other night from Gigantic, I think that the vinous notes from Port don't work as well for me in big ales as much as other barrel treatments. Well done for a wine barreled stout.

From the 11.2 (!?!?!) oz can in a snifter. This fine brew pours a
deep obsidian with a fine head of brown foam that settles to a
thick ring, thin dusty layer, and shows excellent lacing. Nose of
rich port, char, oak, deep roasted coffee, dark bakers cocoa,
and dried orchard fruits of cranberry and cherry. Flavors hit the
mark with dark bakers cocoa, oak, vinous notes of port, espresso,
char, faint cream, dark fruits of cranberry, dark grapes, cherry, and
caramel amongst the char. Excellent mouth feel; full body, smooth,
rich, light carbonation, lightly warming, and finishing dry and laden
with cocoa and char.

Overall----a FANTASTIC brew from a great brewery!

Cheers
