Canned 4/20/23

I’ve only had a few beers from Evil Twin, and given the styles I’ve had from them so far, I wasn’t expecting to see a Doppelbock from them on Tavour. It’s the fact that it feels like a left field choice that made me decide to take a chance on this one. Let’s crack it open and see what it has to offer

Pours an opaque medium brown with 2 fingers of rocky tan head that slowly fades to a ring and leaves decent lacing

The nose here is nice and balanced, and oddly reminds me a bit of a Baltic Porter. I’m picking up on aromas of dark toast, raisin, cocoa powder, brown sugar, molasses, earthy hops, black cherry, toffee, light leather, and black pepper

It’s less Baltic Porter-esque in taste, which is unfortunate because I was enjoying that vibe, though it’s still very nice. On the front end of the sip I’m tasting dark toast, cocoa powder, black cherry, black tea, herbal hops, toffee, light molasses, and raisin. The swallow brings notes of dark toast, herbal hops, black tea, molasses, burnt caramel, black cherry, dark roast coffee, cocoa powder, and black pepper

A medium body pairs with gentle carbonation, resulting in a silky beer. Finishes neutral with a roasty bitterness

Despite the fact that it doesn’t really scream Doppelbock, this is a damn good beer. Maybe I’ll have to try more traditional styles from Evil Twin

16oz can from Tavour. Muddy brown pour, ring of beige head. Malty aroma with notes of cola and chocolate. Taste is the same as the nose, sweet, malty, chocolate, cola. Medium weight.
