On tap at Eulogy on 6/5/11 for the 2nd Annual Coffee Beer Brunch during Philly Beer Week.
A - Slick, black and oily liquid with a creamy burnt tan head that receded to envelope the glass in a thin, delicate web of lacing.
S - Bitter Belgian chocolate and dark roasted malt at the forefront, followed by mild coffee notes. This was not as coffee-forward as I was anticipating. As the liquid warmed up, faint earthy notes akin to dirt and tree bark began to emerge. Dookie? Not so much.
T - Flavor really incorporates lots of bitter chocolate character with a hint of coffee roast, giving the stout an acrid edge. However, this finishes quite bitter with an earthy hop flair and biting roasty astringency. The chocolate character does little to sweeten the pot here, and adds to the bitterness.
M - Really smooth and creamy with some oily slickness, resulting in a thick mouthfeel overall. Finishes quite bitter on the palate with moderate astringency.
D - Liquid Dookie drinks quite well for an Imperial Stout weighing in at 10.4%... and also for a beer named after fecal matter. While this wasn't too heavy on the coffee character, it was quite bitter and roasty.
