This one pours a fairly dark brown color, with a small head, and a little bit of lacing.
This smells like creamy barrel driven vanilla, coconut, frosting, caramel, and chocolate.
This could have been a little bit messy – pastry barleywines are hard to make compelling beyond being flashy. But this is pretty nice, all things considered. There’s some nice barrel and oakiness, and a touch of more earthy vanilla and caramel. The coconut melds well with everything, and doesn’t get too overbearing or dessert like.
This is medium bodied, pretty creamy, with no real booziness.
Pastry barleywine is near the bottom of favorite styles for me, but this worked pretty well, surprisingly.
