tasty one from the new york city location, i still jump all over these cans when i see them, and the hop mix is cool here, a little unconventional, ariana is not a varietal i am real familiar with, german i just learned by googling it, which is a neat origin for a hop that ends up in modern hazy ipa, we typically dont think of the old world for hops for these styles, so something a little different here for sure, especially combined with comet, itself somewhat of a stranger to the style these days, something southern hemisphere with the motueka, and of course citra, which rounds out a really dynamic global mix. the can doesnt say hazy, but the pour is definitely that, matte and a little dense, pale colored, with some white chunky bits at the very bottom, hardly distracting but i see them anyway, nice pillowy head on this, good retention and bubbles, not their most refined, but i let it be, eager to get into these hops, straight up. somewhat poorly refined looking, but okay, moving on. aroma is spicy and citrus together, white pepper and lemon peel, bitter melon rind, light vanilla, and some wheat earthiness, light grain, some ale yeast in play, dynamic, maybe not super fresh, but i get noble character, fruity motueka, obvious citra in its nearfull glory, and really the hop part of this is great. the flavor is there with the nose, part of me wants more from the ariana specifically, another part of me likes the layering, lime and white wine, honeydew and quince, juicy but then also dry, which are not often found together at these intensities, its lush and tropical and then its gone, cool. some grain to this in a raw and mineral forward kind of way, but not malty really, a little raw, not all that much body for what it is, but could be slightly cleaner to me too, and my can was kind of squishy, low fill maybe, and there is some flatness and oxidation in it, but its hard to be too critical of this, its unique and its come a long way and i would much rather be having it than not be having it and wondering what im missing. not among the best from these guys, but clever on the hop mix, and springy indeed, as the name implies.
