Enjoyed at The Lions Pride in Brunswick, Maine this IPA is a collaboration effort with Uncommon Brewers in California. It's a fairly clear, dark amber color with a thin but sturdy cream colored head and tenacious blankets of lacing. Very nice. The smell includes a woodsy yeast and muted pine hops. Tasteful and a little different, classy. The taste buds get an interesting hit of rye grass and hints of whisky-wine over light maple malt. Something different for sure, decent hop bite and pleasant flavor. The Scottish ale yeast has its expected effect and it grows on me as I go. There's a floral hop and some mead sort of ideas. Good stuff. The body is medium though perhaps a tad on the light side. Carbonation is very fine but effective for a peppery feel that ends with a little dryness. This is not a typical IPA for obvious reasons but it delivers a likeable grass/leaf hop and a bit of a yeast twist. Another quality effort though it may not be a favorite amongst IPA lovers. Just a little too much on the grassy side of hops to be a home run for me but definitely give this a try if you fancy yourself an IPA enthusiast.
