On tap at City Beer Store

A: 4.5 Pitch black with a fairly large tan head that dissipates quickly. Looks like a nice stout.

S: 3.75 Lots of vanilla and roasted malts up front followed by light vinegar.

T: 3.25 A lot going on but not particularly balanced. Starts quite tart with some fruits (maybe apple?). Some of the roasted malt comes next, but with it also comes some bitterness and a bit of a chemically taste. Another review described it as airplane glue, which is pretty spot on. It's not super strong, but once you notice it, it becomes hard to ignore.

M: 4 Nice and thick like a stout, but not too much. I think the carbonation is just right and works well with the sour flavors.

O: 3.75 Definitely an interesting beer. Not worth seeking out, but it does have a lot if interesting flavors and qualities. It would be much better if they were more harmonious.

Appearance: Oily black

Aroma: Sour, almost chemical/glue like aroma

Taste: Collision of coffee/chocolate with intense medicinal tartness

 Palate: Huge mouthfeel

Overall: So much going on... extremely huge, and the flavors seem to compete with each other (from notes)

"***Brewvival Exclusive***

Evil Twin's gargantuan Imperial Porter, Lil' B, was named in loving tribute to Brian Ewing of 12% Imports, the man big enough to originally bring Evil Twin to the U.S. Folks either love Brian or love the beer, as evidenced by it rocketing up rating charts like BeerAdvocate's "Top Beers - New." Lucky for us, and only us in this case, Jeppe doesn't settle down, even when his beers are garnering critical acclaim. Sour stout is a rare beast, though not unheard of. But sour imperial porter, aged/soured in brandy barrels? That's a horse of a different color, one we've never, ever seen before."

Had this one at Brewvival 2013! Poured by Jeppe himself! Served from tap into a Brewvival sample shaker. Poured a dark brown with a half finger off-white to slightly tan head that subsided to a minimal amount slowly. Maintained nice lacing throughout the glass. The aroma was comprised of sweet malt, roasted malt, tart, sour, funk, and subtle dark chocolate. The flavor was of sweet malt, tart, sour, earth, funk, roasted malt, and dark chocolate. It had a light feel on the palate with high carbonation. Overall this was a pretty decent brew. I know that there has been a lot of experimenting going on out there with souring stouts, porters, etc. but many fall short of a true sour character. This one on the otherhand blew my face off with the sour/tart notes going on here. The booziness was nowhere to be found either on it. Also, I hate to say it, but there was no sign of the barrel going on in this one as the sour/tart just completely overpowered most everything. Still not a bad brew to start out Brewvival with.

This is a barrel aged Imperial Porter that was aged in Brandy Barrels. Looks like an imperial stout, intense black with big frothy tan khaki head. Ethyl acetate galore. Nose is pretty much just model airplane glue. Flavor is a bit more bitter prunes with the chemical notes right behind. I don't think I would have serve this beer to people.
