12 oz bottle poured in a pint glass on a hot summer day.
Pours with a deep, dark copper-mahogany body and a short beige head that leaves some lacing.
Excellent, creamy full body.
Loaded with malts, the rich flavor also carries a well calibrated mix of spices and hints of cherries and chocolate. These leave a fine, lingering aftertaste.

What a great hoppy, malty, caramel, coco taste! This would please any craft beer drinker. I bought this for 1.49 a 22 oz bottle, thats a ridiculous price! The ibu isnt stated but I'd guess 60. I could drink this winter ale all year long and at that price its cheaper than brewing my own.....

This was a nice winter ale with a big smoky flavor. It does warm you up with a big finish of malty goodness. Not bad!

Three Heads Brewing "Wendigo Winter Ale"
22 oz. brown glass bottle, no apparent freshness date
$7.49 @ Wegmans Market, Collegeville, PA

Appearance: Clear, deep-russet / mahogany brown colored body beneath a short but frothy head of yellowed off-white foam that drops shorty to become a creamy, thin lid. Lacing is average with limited spotty dots and short swaths of more solid 'curtain' left behind.

Smell: Limited, but nutty and caramelish with hints of powdered cocoa. Slight hint of alcohol.

Taste: Fairly bold, not unlike the cartoon sasquatch on the label. Fuller than the aroma suggests with all of the components found in the aroma packed into one tight bundle and backed by spicy, grassy, minty, and gently piney hops. The alcohol lends to the spiciness but otherwise it's fairly well cloaked. Solidly bitter. Dry and spicy finish with some residual notes of chocolate, cocoa, and fudge as well as fluttering hop notes.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with a slightly elevated median carbonation that tingles the tongue perhaps 2.59 volumes of C02/liter.

Overall: Initially lackluster, a little warming opens it up. I'd suggest trying it at closer to cellar temperature than right out of a below 40˚ fridge. Just pull it out and let it sit for a few minutes. That allows the malt to widen a bit, and balance against the hoppiness. That said, it's pleasant enough. There are no new tricks here, but it's a malty, spicy and hoppy strong brown ale that should satisfy. I can see it as just a relaxing beer to enjoy some telly with, but at the same time I can easily see it going well with a Thanksgiving dinner. Probably worth a try.
