i had way higher hopes for this one, a caramel colored brett saison that i expected to be dry and funky and interesting, but it seems a little amateur on the whole, even though i didnt dislike it. the addition of this richer crystal malt seems weird for one, not that there isnt a place for grain like this in funky saison, assuredly there is, but i was a little let down by how it remains kind of sweet and heavy feeling, not congruent with what else is happening here. its also a little flat for me, not real heady from the tap, but also a little still in feel, which, with the bigger grain base, makes it heavy feeling and even tiring to drink. more than that though, the brett is immature and a little stinky, not as funky and farmy and rustic and interesting as i want it to be, and also its a little lost to the french type saison yeast with all those big winey and belgian esters, the relationship between the two is strange and a little contradictory, even though i know they can work together a lot better than this. not a bad beer, still flavorful and interesting, just not as dialed in as just about everything else we had to drink in here was, it needs some tweaking, especially on the malt bill and fermentation elements. mid range brett beer at best at this point...
