Getting back to our roots, our newest imperial stout Black Noise features no adjuncts, just pure stout goodness. Dark, rich, and roasty. This version aged in Mt. Pleasant port barrels for five months.

Appearance: Arrives espresso colored with a thin cap; a few strands

Smell: Chocolate and dark fruit tones with the oak from the port wine barrel distinctive

Taste: Vinous fortified wine flavors forward with the chocolate emerging; very oaky with the port aspect becoming more pronounced, after the swallow; boozy finish

Mouthfeel: Full bodied with moderate carbonation; warmth in the gullet

Overall: Interesting to see how a big stout matures in a port wine barrel but, to be honest, not my favorite barrel treatment

canned about 2 and a half months ago, dumped into a tulip and enjoyed with some good tunes. deep dark brew with a very slim, very dark tan head that slowly slipped to absolute nothingness. nose is just like the regular black noise, lots of chocolate-y malt goodness and a very earthy backdrop, but theres a slew of dark fruits stinking up the glass and im enjoying that quite a bit. flavor follows that same profile, starting with a bittersweet chocolate, bits of toffee, cold coffee and earthy hop notes. a dark fruit, almost berry sweetness seeps in and plays around before yielding to a slight bitterness and warmth in the aftertaste. stings the throat just a bit but quite drinkable, pretty full bodied and really just good! drink some!
