Brewed in collaboration with Binny’s Beverage Depot.
In 2017, six steers ran loose in the streets of St. Louis. A thunderstorm was blamed for the escape, supposedly spooking the cows to stampede. Others opined that as the cows were scheduled to be slaughtered that day, they knew it was now or never. The ringleader, and last of the six to be captured, was a steer named Chico. Thanks to generous crowd funding, Chico, and the other members of “The St. Louis Six” were spared from their intended fate and instead sent to a live out their days on a farm. 2nd Shift’s imperial milk stout Chico’s Revenge commemorates this wild set of events. We loved the story and the beer, so we had 2nd Shift fill some of our hand selected 1792 bourbon barrels with stout, and they’ve been resting peacefully down in St. Louis for the past two years. The beer is finally out of the barrels and into bottles. Join us as we raise a glass to the six who refused to fall in line.

375 ml bottle into a snifter. Bottled 4/14/22, had 11/27/22.
Pours an opaque dark brown, with a quarter inch head and light foamy cling. Aromas of chocolate, vanilla, bourbon, light roast malt, oak, waffle cone, light char. Matching flavors: chocolate, bourbon, malt, vanilla, waffle cone, some oak. Smooth, a very good full body, well carbonated on the higher side.
The barrels shine when warm, lots of chocolate and vanilla. Pretty good.

Poured at 50° into my trusty Big Eddy snifter! Thick and black, it even has a few bubbles that appear a light brown, they're gone in a flash! Boogar factory gets some dark chocolate, some burnt sugar, oak some vanilla and toffee, taste buds get all that, plus a bit of whiskey. This is a nicely "chewable" beer. Tasty for sure!

l: pours pitch black with only a slight khaki colored head. No lacing throughout.
s: sweet oak & bourbon dominate the aroma. some vanilla & chocolate notes as well
t: Sweet bourbon and chocolate are the dominant flavors to me.
f: medium mouthfeel. sticky. medium-low carbonation
o: glad to have tried this collaboration between 2nd Shift and Binny's. The bourbon characteristics dominate here. I'd rather a BA stout err on the side of too much barrel than too little so this is fine with me. Overall, the beer is good but it is missing a certain je ne sais quoi to make it a very good BA stout.

Released May 2022; drank 5/29/22 @ the Yarchives.
Black/brown appearance.
An even pour yielded a small, noisy dark tan head; no lace.
Dark chocolate, fresh earth, mild vanilla & faint waffle cone notes in the nose.
Thick, sticky mouthfeel.
Dark chocolate, bourbon heat & faint waffle cone flavors.
Too boozy on the tongue, but I'm glad they didn't just dump sweet stuff into it, at least. It'll do in a pinch.

poured from a 375mL bottle into a SP stemmed Zwanze Day glass. pours a dark brown to light black with a thin brown foam cap. heavy but delightful bourbon and oak aromas on the nose. but of fudge and even some vanilla and nuts. taste follows with a heavy wash of bourbon and some light chocolate and vanilla notes. medium-full mouthfeel that starts a little fuller than it finishes. the barrel work here is impressive and while the base stout isn’t necessarily meant for barrels it still works. a little bit of beefed up mouthfeel and this would go from good to stellar. still, very glad to have found a bottle at the local binny’s.
